First Grade Music Concert & Gallery Walk - Friday, February 16, 2024 at 2:00PM
We are so excited for our upcoming 1st Grade Music Concert! The concert will take place Friday, February 16 starting at 2:00PM at the Primary Center. Please note that our concert will take place in the Primary Center gymnasium.
This year we are also excited to announce that in conjunction with the 1st grade concert, we will be hosting a 1st grade art gallery walk! There will be a map printed on the back of your concert program that will guide your art gallery tour. After the concert, you may go pick up your child from their classroom and do the gallery walk together. With this event taking place near the end of our school day, we simply ask that you complete your gallery walk no later than 2:50 PM so that we can safely clear the hallways to get our students ready for dismissal.
We will be unlocking the north, south, and west Primary Center gymnasium doors starting at 1:30 PM. Guests will not be permitted into the building before 1:30 PM. We are encouraging families to park on Academy St. and 2nd St. There will only be minimal parking available in the PC lot and down in the ELC lot.
In our gymnasium, we will have bleacher and chair seating. We ask that the chair seating be reserved for visitors with mobility limitations, parents with small children, and as overflow seating once the bleachers are full.
At the end of the concert, teachers will be taking their students back to their classrooms. Parents will be dismissed by class to check in with the classroom teacher and pick up their child and then complete the art gallery walk.
The children are very excited about performing for us, and sharing their artwork! Thank you for being a part of this event. We are looking forward to seeing you!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Knapp, Music Teacher, Ms. Godfrey, Art Teacher & Mrs. Johnson, Principal

Absence Notification Process - New Attendance Email Addresses
If your child will need to be absent from school for any reason, please use one of these three options to notify the school. You may fill out the Absence Request in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal, call the PC office at 437-7506 or ELC office at 437-7606 or email the PC office at pcattendance@mounthorebschools.org or the ELC office at elcattendance@mounthorebschools.org
You may also notify the teacher if you'd like but the office will pass the absence information along to the teachers. This will insure that your child's absence notification is received in the event that your child has a substitute teacher.
Thank you for your partnership in this matter,

Health Office News
Hello from the health office!
In recent weeks, we have seen an increase in respiratory viruses and illnesses in our schools to include Influenza (flu) and COVID-19. If your child has symptoms of illness, they should stay home until they are feeling better and fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications. If they test positive for COVID-19, please call your child’s school and the school nurse will get in touch to discuss next steps.
Symptoms include:
Fever
Chills
Headache
Tiredness
Cough
Sore throat
Runny or stuffy nose
Body aches
Loss of taste or smell (COVID-19)
It is not too late to get vaccinated for flu and COVID-19!
Vaccines are safe, effective and offer the best defense from serious illness. Babies and young children under 5 years, as well as children and youth with underlying conditions, are at higher risk of complications from these viruses.
Help prevent the spread!
Encourage your child to practice regular hand hygiene by washing with soap and water when available, or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or elbow.
Frequently wash down surfaces.
Thank you to all parents and caregivers for your ongoing efforts to help reduce the impact of these viruses on children, families, and schools!

Our snack box program has been very well received. This isn't a program that replaces daily snacks, but it does help provide snacks for kids who have forgotten to bring their snack. If you are interested in donating to help support this program we are always accepting donations! We've had some very gracious donations for families and local businesses! We couldn't do this important work without the support of our wonderful families and community! Helping Your Child Navigate Worries and Anxiety
As parents, we all want our children to grow up feeling happy, confident, and secure. However, it's normal for kids to experience worries and anxiety from time to time, especially as they navigate the challenges of growing up. Whether it's starting school, making new friends, or facing unfamiliar situations, there are plenty of things that can cause anxiety in young children. The good news is that as parents, there are many ways we can help our little ones cope with their worries and build resilience. Here are some tips to guide you through this journey:
Create a Safe and Open Environment: Encourage open communication with your child. Let them know that it's okay to talk about their feelings, fears, and worries. Create a safe space where they feel comfortable sharing their concerns without fear of judgment.
Listen Actively: When your child expresses worries or anxiety, listen to them attentively. Show empathy and validate their feelings. Sometimes, just having someone to listen to can make a big difference in how they feel.
Teach Coping Strategies: Help your child develop coping strategies to manage their worries. Deep breathing exercises, visualization techniques, or simple mindfulness activities can be effective tools for calming anxious thoughts. Here is a poster of calming strategies that have been taught at school.
Establish Routines: Consistent routines can provide a sense of stability and predictability for children, which can help reduce anxiety. Establish regular bedtime routines, meal times, and daily schedules to create a sense of order in your child's life. Visual schedules of common routines at home can be comforting to children.
Encourage Positive Thinking: Teach your child to challenge negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones. Help them reframe their worries in a more positive light and focus on things they can control.
Lead by Example: Children often learn by observing their parents' behavior. Show them healthy ways to cope with stress and manage your own worries in front of them. Be mindful of the language you use and try to model positive thinking.
Limit Exposure to Stressful Situations: Pay attention to your child's triggers and try to limit their exposure to stressful situations whenever possible. For example, if they're anxious about a particular activity, you can gradually expose them to it in small, manageable steps.
Encourage Physical Activity: Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and improve mood. Encourage your child to engage in active play, sports, or outdoor activities to help them release pent-up energy and stress.
Celebrate Achievements: Praise your child's efforts and celebrate their achievements, no matter how small. Positive reinforcement can boost their self-esteem and confidence, making them more resilient in the face of challenges.
Seek Professional Help if Needed: If your child's worries persist or significantly interfere with their daily life, consider seeking help from a mental health professional. The ELC/PC has a school counselor, social worker, and psychologist available to help you navigate this decision. They can provide additional support and strategies to help your child cope with their anxiety.
Remember, every child is different, and what works for one may not work for another. Be patient and supportive as you help your child navigate their worries and anxiety. With your love and guidance, they'll develop the resilience and coping skills they need to thrive emotionally and mentally. Please reach out to the ELC/PC Student Services Team with any questions.
