Patriotic Observance
George Washington, the first President of the United States, was born on February 22, 1732. His birthday is celebrated as a federal holiday in the United States along with Abraham Lincoln’s birthday on “Washington’s Birthday” — the Monday before Washington’s birthday and after Lincoln’s February 12 birthday. Seniors and juniors planning a college/military visit should stop by the Attendance Office to pick up an Excused Absence Request form ahead of their visit. If approved, up to two days may be excused. Visits that will last longer than two days would require a Short Term Independent Study Contract to excuse the absence.

The festival kicks off Thursday evening with our keynote speaker, Mark Oppenheimer on February 24 and runs through Havdalah on February 26.
NATIONAL FFA WEEK STARTS SATURDAY THE 20TH National FFA Week is a time for FFA members to share agriculture with their fellow students as well as their communities. Chapters also give back to their communities through service projects during FFA Week. For example, Arroyo Grande FFA will be hosting a student activity at lunch on Wednesday the 23rd during FFA Week and celebrating our office staff with a small token of appreciation on Thursday the 24th encouraging them to learn more about the FFA. | FNL AWARENESS GALLERY FNL will be hosting an Awareness Gallery on the blacktop at lunch today through Friday featuring information and resources on mental health, substance use/abuse prevention, and more. SPEECH AND DEBATE CLUB NEWS
Four of our students competed in the Pismo Beach Lions Club speaking competition on Tuesday, February 8th. Taking top honors was Lily Klapper (and $100) who will move on to the next level of competition. Richie Bozzano, Dana Petker and Sofia Kardel also spoke on the topic "How Can Kindness Reunite Our Country.". Lily Klapper will move on to the Zone Student Speaker Contest on Sunday, March 6. Congratulations.

Community Service Opportunities
Student help is always needed at Home Track Meets.
Our first meet is an "Intra-squad" meet on Wed. 2/23. 3:15 to 5:30ish. Several other opportunities will be in March. Interested students need to sign-up in Room 309 or in Room 908.
Submitting your community service hours
The Google Form for Community Service Hours is used for the graduation requirement of 20 hours. Any hours in addition to your graduation requirement should be submitted on the Give Back 250 Google Classroom with Mr. Hurtado.

Staff Notices
REMINDERS: STAFF: Wear your ID when on campus. Also, Continue to be diligent about proper mask wearing in the classroom. Refer any issues to grade level admin.
TEACHER PARTICIPATION: As case managers and counselors are setting up meetings with students with Fs, it is absolutely vital and expected that all teachers participate in IEP, 504 and SST meetings. It is imperative that you provide your feedback and participation...a sub can be provided if needed, just let the case manager know. Please indicate on the calendar invite why you can’t make it if you decline.
