La Costa Meadows Elementary School
Weekly Dolphin Blast
Week of September 18, 2022
It was so nice to get a bit of a reprieve from the hot temperatures this past week and we know the students welcomed the change as it allowed them to have more time outdoors!
Last Friday, we held Student Council Officer elections. Each year I grow more impressed by our student candidates. Speaking in front of a large group of peers is no easy feat and they do so with confidence. I'm so proud of all of our students who ran this year and no matter the outcome we shared with students that there are still plenty of opportunities around campus for them to take on student leadership roles. Congratulations to the following elected officers for first semester:
President: Zoe Stroble
Vice President: Madeline Cares
Secretary: Isaac Flores
Treasurer: Noah Tseng
Commissioner of Dolphin Spirit: Harper Putrus
Commissioner of Community Service: Lauren Patt
Commissioner of Publicity: Emma Bray
Commissioner of Appreciation: Everly Porter
Last week's fall Book Fair was a success! Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped Mrs. Rapo in the library. We loved seeing students leave the library excited to read the new books they selected!
We are looking forward to another great week filled with learning and fun!
With Dolphin pride,
Mrs. Bedard
COVID-19 Volunteer Procedure Update
On September 13, 2022, the CDPH rescinded the public health order mandating vaccine verification for workers in schools. The previous public health order required unvaccinated or partially vaccinated school workers to undergo weekly COVID-19 testing. Per the updated public health order, weekly testing of unvaccinated or partially vaccinated school workers, including volunteers, is no longer required as of September 17, 2022. We appreciate you and everything you do for the SMUSD community! Thank you for your patience and flexibility over the last two
years.

Improving traffic safety together
The City of Carlsbad is asking parents to talk to their students about traffic safety and use special care getting to and from school, whether driving, biking or walking:
Eliminate distractions. Phones, music, kids, pets – there are so many things that vie for our attention every day. Tragedy can occur in a split second.
If you have an e-bike in your family, please make sure you understand the rules of the road, including new Carlsbad-specific rules passed by the City Council to improve safety.
Allow extra time over ,to get where you need to go.
Be kind and patient. We are all part of the Carlsbad community, and working together, we can make our streets safer for everyone.
