Creating and Maintaining Community
Most Holy Trinity Catholic School
Introduction
In a Catholic Community there is a definite need to take care of each other and support one another to help our physical and mental well-being. In order to help with this we have created this plan to help us become a strong, Catholic Community.
After extensive discussion we present the following for your consideration.
Creating and Maintaining Commmunity
Key question: How are we going to create a feeling of community?
Face to Face
· Our teachers and staff will build relationship with all families through written, electronic and face to face communication.
· We will contact and survey new parents regarding their feelings on different issues.
· We will assign buddies to our families: a parent for each family and a student for each new student.
· We will hold a Meet the Teacher Night before school begins. We may need to hold it over several days. We need to hold one for new parents if we are unable to do one for the whole school community.
· New students who are registering will be receiving a welcome letter from the principal. It will detail their teacher and give an overview of what they will be studying.
· Returning students will also receive a letter from the principal during the summer when they register. It will detail the same information plus any new information.
· We will do a weekly announcement on You Tube, Facebook and Twitter throughout the summer.
Virtually
· Our teachers and staff will build relationship with all families through written and electronic communication.
· If we can not hold a Meet the Teacher Night before school begins, we will modify it to allow new students and parents to meet our teachers and staff.
Key question: what routines will we establish to help all of us maintain a sense of community?
Face to Face
· In our welcome letters we will promote “Meet the Teacher Night” for new parents. If we cannot have Meet the Teacher Night, then we will make appointments for our parents come in and meet us prior to the start of school.
· We will recognize student and staff birthdays on the announcements each morning
· We will recognize student achievements on the announcements each morning.
Virtually
· We will continue put our announcements on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter
· We will conduct opening prayer on Facebook live.
· We will announce student birthdays using social media ( we will not use pictures that identify students).
Key question: how can we maintain an ongoing connection with parents and staff ?
Face to Face
· Our staff will connect with each other outside of faculty meetings.
· We will hold meetings with parents to learn more about each other and discuss concerns.
· The Principal will host Coffee with the Principal once a month.
· Our parents saw how our teachers reached out to students during virtual learning. The middle school teachers were particularly effective speaking with parents and children.
Virtually
· Our staff will remain in communication with each other outside of school.
· We will hold virtual meetings with parents to learn more about each other and discuss concerns.
· The Principal will host Coffee with the Principal once a month.
· Our teachers will reach out to students through phone calls and chats
Key Question: How will we continue to recruit new families and market our school?
· When we are recruiting we will convey relationships. We will share positive comments that our parents, children and visitors have made about our school.
· Volunteer parents will help with recruiting calls.
· This year's teacher will call next year's class to say hello.
· All of our new students will receive a letter from the principal welcoming them than to the school , telling them who their new teacher is and a little bit about what they will learn.
A Final Thought
”The future is, most of all, in the hands of those people who recognize the other as a ‘you’
and themselves as part of an ‘us.’
We all need each other.”
-Pope Francis
