Ambassadors Program Created to Improve Education for Young Children
The Early Childhood Ambassadors program is designed to improve education for young children in Florence by involving local leaders in the latest trends and research concerning young children and education programs serving children and families.
Over the course of six months, the Ambassadors will meet with top experts in the field of early childhood education. They will hear about curriculum and research that are changing early childhood education.
The program seeks to create a community of leaders that can share firsthand knowledge and help collaborate with fellow educators, policymakers, and the community about the educational concerns of young children.
For more information about the Early Ambassadors program, call Debbie Hyler, (DHyler@theschoolfoundation.org) Executive Director of The School Foundation, at 843-662-9996 or Dr. Floyd Creech, (fcreech@fsd1.org) Director of School Readiness at 843-673-1129.

SC Department of Education’s "Read Your Way to the Big Game" Contest Underway
Parents across the state can help establish a foundation of success for their children and support the University of South Carolina and Clemson University by participating in the South Carolina Department of Education’s “Read Your Way to the Big Game!” contest.
All pre-k through eighth-grade students who read six books will qualify to win tickets to the Palmetto Bowl on November 30. Once students have completed their readings, they should turn in the list of books read to their teacher. Winners will receive four tickets and pre-game sideline passes to the Clemson vs. South Carolina game.
Schools with at least 70% student participation will be entered to win one of two $2,000 school library grants. Five participating teachers will be randomly selected to win $500 for their classroom. Two teachers and/or school library media specialists who have the best decorated bulletin board, wall or door will win $500 each for their classroom.
The deadline is November 1. You can register one student or multiple students for the contest by clicking the link below.

Florence 1's Wide World of Sports
Beginning this Friday, August 30th, (South Florence home game), all Florence 1 students will be admitted free to attend regular season football games at Memorial Stadium. Students in grade 7 and higher must present their CURRENT, school-issued ID in order to obtain entrance into the game. Students in grades 6 and below must be accompanied and monitored by a parents or guardian who is attending the game.
If students do not have their school issued ID for admittance, they will have to pay the previous $7.00 entrance fee. The free admission would be for any Florence 1 Schools home game for any student. (For example, if a student from West Florence wanted to attend a Wilson home game, the admission is still free). For playoff or state championship games, there will be a student admission fee because of South Carolina High School League requirements.
