Paly Guidance
Updates Week 5
Viking Families!
Welcome to the end of week 5! After our week 6 SMORE announcement, we will be sending out announcements bi-weekly, coinciding with Mr Kline’s bi-weely SMORE communication.
All past and future updates can be found on our Guidance website under the "newsletters." Wishing you a wonderful and safe weekend.
Lane-Change Update
Progress Note grades were posted to Infinite Campus today, 9/18. In order to give students enough time to speak with their teacher about a progress note grade, we are extending the Lane Change deadline to Friday 9/25 at 3 pm. If your student is unsure about whether they should consider a lane change, please encourage them to speak with their teacher and Teacher Advisor.
Advisory
Continuing with our theme of giving students the tools they need to be successful, during Advisories on Wednesday, Sept 16 and Friday, Sept 18, the Freshman and Seniors learned some new tips.
9th Grade: Learning how to manage time and plan your week are necessary life skills. The Freshman were introduced to a digital planner in their lesson about Planning and Productivity.
12th Grade: Seniors worked on the Common Applications and Other Tips, learning how to invite and assign their recommenders. TAs shared a “how-to” video and a tip sheet that break the process down into easy to follow steps. On another tip sheet, students found links to information about filling in other types of applications, as well as how to create a resume, and info about Gap Years. And taking a cue from the freshman lesson, seniors were given a College Application Tracking Chart to help them organize their applications and due dates.
If your student has follow-up questions about what was reviewed in Advisory this week, please have them reach out to their TA. If a student was sick and absent from advisory, please have them review the slide deck found in their Advisory class in Schoology and then follow-up with their TA with any questions they might have. If students have feedback to offer about advisory lessons, please have them speak with their TA or email Ann Deggelman (adeggelman@pausd.org).

Virtual College-Rep Visits Update #2
Note: some of the entries in the Naviance College Visit list and the calendar on paly.net/college (typically those scheduled before 8 am and after 3:30 pm or on weekends) are "off-campus" virtual info sessions or interview opportunities. These events usually require separate registration--not through Naviance. Expand the visit entry in Naviance to display the college’s external registration link. The URL to join the visit will *not* be in Naviance; you’ll receive it directly from the college, after registering for the event.
Common App Help Workshop
Seniors working on early applications, the C&CC will host a virtual workshop Tues., Sept. 22 at 3:10 pm. This is a time to get questions answered and/or work on your Common App with College Advisors in the “room” to offer assistance and advice. Please find the Zoom meeting ID in the event on the C&CC Class of 2021 Schoology course calendar. This workshop is for students, only.
