Central Elementary: Helping All Kids Find Their Genius

Week of January 11

Message from Mrs. Hill

Families,

Week one of the first semester was busy and fast! Students and staff are settled back into routines, and LOTS of learning took place! We are reviewing expectations for the cafeteria during lunch, and have implemented some new ideas to help kids act responsibly. This goes along with our focus on kindness for the month of January.

We hope you will join us Thursday evening at 6:00 for our next Community in Action meeting. Everyone is welcome to come and listen to our Director of Testing, Mrs. Linda Payne, speak to us about the new standardized assessment our kids will be taking in April. We will also have an open forum time for you to share with us! We want to know how to better support you and also want to share some of our news with you. Mark your calendars! We will have childcare provided for you.

Great news about Box Tops!!!!!

We received a check in the mail for $700 for Box Tops from the first semester! We already have over $400 toward our next check, which we will receive in April. Keep saving those Box Tops and returning them to school! Thank you!

The weather is always unpredictable, so make sure you prepare your child for anything! Jackets, coats, hats, gloves, scarves, hoodies, etc. need to be labeled with your child's name so we can return to the owner if misplaced.

CAR RIDER FAMILIES:

Please remember to have your car tag visible in the windshield each day at dismissal. We will be checking daily and will ID anyone without a tag. Thank you!

Quick Reminder about Martin Luther King Jr. Day:

January 18 there will be no school UNLESS we have inclement weather between January 4 and the week of January 11. If we dismiss school during those days, January 18 will be used as a makeup snow day.

Have a wonderful week!

Your Lead Learner,

Mrs. Hill

The Power of ONE Word in 2016

Many of our teachers have chosen ONE word to help them focus for the new year! This is a great way to replace a list of resolutions, and help us all improve personally and professionally. We invite you to see our word choices and celebrate with us as we prepare for endless possibilities in 2016! If you are interested in participating in ONE WORD, click on the title above for more information! Kids can do this too...great way to set goals as a family.

Shoparoo: A Way to Raise Funds for OUR Kids!

We have almost earned $200 for our school through Shoparoo! As of Saturday afternoon we have accumulated over 139,000 Roo Points, and have 107 supporters. Our school wants to reach the 150,000 mark in January, because this will earn our school $300! Every little amount helps, so between Shoparoo, Box Tops, Marcos Pizza, and any other initiative we take on, we can earn cash rewards for our school and avoid fundraising as much as possible.

You can join Shoparoo with the following code: lang5526

What Will Shoparoo Funds Help Purchase?

We need more Chromebooks for our students. The goal is to have a 1:1 setting in third and fourth grades! This means there is a Chromebook (laptop device) for each student´s use throughout a school day. We have several devices currently and want to add more. We would also like to add to our second grade classrooms in the future, and have 1:1 devices for our kindergarten and first grade kids.

Box Tops for Education

Our school collects Box Tops for Education, so please be saving these at home! We are hoping to purchase a brand new flag pole for our campus. The funds we raise with Box Tops will help us achieve our goal.

Below are links to some collection pages for Box Tops. You are free to print these, or you may ask your child to pick up a sheet at school! We will have them available for you.
