Navigator highlights
Johnson N. Aldan Atalig Major and Expected Graduation Date: B.S. in Education with a concentration in Rehabilitation in Human Services, May 2022 What made you become a mentor/tutor? I decided to become a student navigator because of + Mr. Hedwig Hofschneider. Mr. Hedwig encouraged me to apply and I am forever grateful I took his advice. I have been at Project PROA ever since and I have grown so much as a student and a professional. What benefits do you get by having a mentor/tutor? Friendship, guidance, and support. In difficult times you will need someone to support and guide you. Project PROA helped me to develop meaningful friendships with my fellow navigators and other students. Many of whom I lean to for support when I am having a bad day, week, or month. One thing you are excited for life after college? One thing that I am excited for is to finally be in the field of Rehabilitation and Human Services. I am excited to give back to my community and hopefully one day I will make my way back to NMC to serve the future citizens and leaders of the CNMI. | Marijean Fernandez Major and Expected Graduation Date: B.S. in Education with a concentration in Elementary Education, May 2022 What made you become a mentor/tutor? True story. Wigs asked my sisters to recruit me as a tutor. I thought hard about this opportunity and decided to apply. I got the position and throughout my work-study journey I gained job skills, friendship, and my Project PROA familia. What benefits do you get by having a mentor/tutor? Having a mentor/tutor has many of its benefits. One of many benefits is you have someone supporting you academically and emotionally. It’s truly a comfort knowing you have a support buddy from Project PROA. One thing you are excited for life after college? I am excited to continue growing as an educator! | Calia LietoMajor and Expected Graduation Date: A.A. in Liberal Arts, Fall 2022 What made you become a mentor/tutor? When I first enrolled into NMC, I felt that it was best to search for openings in the NMC work study program. One reason why I was drawn towards the Project PROA department was due to a cousin of mine who spoke about how enjoyable it was to be working as a mentor. Another reason why I became a mentor is because I take joy in helping others. Since I am a student myself, I felt that I would be able to share my experiences and walk others through their journey. What benefits do you get by having a mentor/tutor? As a mentor, one benefit is that you get to connect with many people–bringing you closer to NMC’s community. Other benefits are that you get to develop public speaking skills as well as learn new things from others! One thing you are excited for life after college? Gerald Padrid Major and Expected Graduation Date: B.S. in Education with a concentration in Elementary Education, Spring 2022 What made you become a mentor/tutor? It all began with my major in education. A close friend of mine and former navigator of PROA encouraged me to join the team! It would be a great opportunity for me to learn and improve skills in teaching as it’s very similar to my field of profession. I also became a tutor because assisting students to accomplish their goals is a very uplifting aspect for me. Tutees emailing you or informing you that they passed because of you makes me feel happy that I can make a very huge, positive impact in someone else’s life! Just hearing that my tutee understands a concept and is learning makes my day - and that is enough for me! What benefits do you get by having a mentor/tutor? Not only will you work with a great team of diverse students and staff, you will also gain experience in assisting students and other great skills such as management, data collection, and being a leader in a department team! You also get to see your tutees every single day! Not to mention how flexible they are. Project PROA works with your class schedule, thus allowing you to work and take classes at the same time! Trust me, you’ll love it being a fellow Navigator of Project PROA! One thing you are excited for life after college? One thing I’m excited for is becoming an official educator, having my own classroom, and preparing students to becoming future leaders of tomorrow! However, college never ends! I will continue pursuing my Master’s degree. | Arnel Sabaldan Pagarao Jr. Major and Expected Graduation Date: A.A.S. in Business Management, Spring 2022 What made you become a mentor/tutor? It was a fun opportunity to meet others and learn to enhance my skills for the workforce. What benefits do you get by having a mentor/tutor? Benefits of being a tutor is that you can learn more by teaching and having the opportunity to connect with many people is a blessing in disguise. One thing you are excited for life after college? Joining the workforce and preparing for law enforcement | Jaden Sanchez Major and Expected Graduation Date: A.A.S. in Business Management, Spring 2022 What made you become a mentor/tutor? To be honest I wanted to earn some income on the side but I really wanted to become more familiar with the campus lifestyle as well as help students such as myself. What benefits do you get by having a mentor/tutor? You’ll have a reliable resource to go to and you’ll make a new friend even for life. Tutoring and mentoring are especially beneficial to first time students. The navigators can relate to you on a personal level since they are students as well and understand the ups and downs of student life. One thing you are excited for life after college? I guess it would be going off to explore the world and making something of myself. |
