7th Grade Life Science
Mrs. Terra Brown's Class - Team 7 Alpha
This week - Test on Cell Processes THIS Wednesday
We have finished our unit on cell processes and will have a test this Wednesday. Each student received a study guide. The answer key is on my webpage.
A lot of great thinking has been happening and a brilliant analysis was written by the students about the Celery (Osmosis) Lab. Please ask them to explain what happened to the celery. (Picture from beforeitsnews.com)
Homework?!
Homework is required in Life Science but not in the traditional sense. Rarely will a worksheet or assignment come home to be completed independently - unless the assignment was started in class and needs to be finished before the next class period.
Homework is to... Practice! Practice! Practice! STUDYING the vocabulary will be key! The students will create foldables, flashcards, graphic organizers, and other study guides in class to aid with their learning of the vocabulary. If the science information is reviewed nightly for at least a concentrated 10 minutes, your child will have success!
Most science classes boil down to a vocabulary class with scientific concepts that apply this vocabulary. If a student doesn't understand the vocabulary, the scientific concept is more difficult to grasp.
I am available to help with an assignment, tutor, provide extra time with the teacher, etc. each morning, Monday through Thursday, starting at 7:45 AM. I love science and I love helping students! After-school SOAR tutoring session are available with Mrs. Haymore on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:10-5:10. If you need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.
2nd Quarter Units: Organ Systems and Genetics
We will have a short review of the major organ systems in the human body. The main concept is to understand how the cells, tissues, and organs work within the separate systems.
The rest of the quarter we'll concentrate on genetics: the role of genes and chromosomes in the process of inheriting a specific trait; comparing and contrasting organisms that reproduce sexually or asexually; and recognizing that selective breeding can produce plants or animals with desired traits.
