The Healing Language of Alex Janvier September 9 – November 20, 2022

Strathcona County is honored to present an exhibition entitled “The Healing Language of Alex Janvier” by world-renowned Denesuline artist, Alex Janvier, from Cold Lake First Nations, Treaty 6 Territory. Curated in partnership with the Janvier Gallery and Gallery@501, this exhibition features paintings, sketchbook drawings, video and audio works that reflect Janvier’s experiences within Canada’s residential school system.

This special exhibition primarily features paintings from the Janvier family’s private collection, and this will be the first time that many of the artworks are on display to the public. Gallery visitors will learn about Alex’s residential school journey from the traumatic loss of language, culture and family, to finding a voice through his art, and a way forward on the path towards healing and reconciliation.

School Fundraising

Our school has signed up to participate in Purdys Chocolates Christmas campaign! This year, we are hoping to put the proceeds towards overall school aesthetics and culture-building activities. You can order anytime between now and November 26th - all orders will be ready for pickup by December 12th. This is a great way to get some shopping done and support the school as well (we will receive 25% of sales). You can create an account and check out the catalogue here: https://fundraising.purdys.com/780246-96025.

Lost/Missing Textbooks and Library Materials

Did you happen to find a textbook while cleaning out your room this summer? Did you discover the library book you checked out last year when opening up your backpack on the first day of school? If so, please bring them to the library so we can check them in for you before you are assessed a fine for missing materials.

Meet the Staff and School Council

We love when our parents are involved in our school and community. We will be having our first School Council meeting following the Staff Meet and Greet on September 14, 2022.

In May we successfully filled both the chair and vice chair positions however we are still looking for a secretary to keep minutes during the meeting. Please email mark.wever@eips.ca if you are interested in helping fill that position.

We do our best to keep meetings to a one-hour limit but do appreciate any questions or support. We look forward to seeing you throughout the year if you are able to attend.

Please RSVP below if you are able to make our first meeting.

Counsellors Corner

Our Counsellors would like to highlight the Boys and Girls club's new Teen Hub. It is behind the building where Franklin’s Inn used to be.

They offer a lot of activity programs (see the poster below)

The "Raise the Grade" program may also be another beneficial activity for our students who are looking for more support after school.

They also have a Dungeons and Dragons club every second Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00-.

If you have a child who could benefit from these programs we encourage you to check it out.
