SFCS celebrates 26 Years of Growing Together in Faith & Knowledge
Dear SFCS Parents & Friends,
Happy Halloween!
We are looking forward to an afternoon of fun and creativity as the students participate in a Halloween parade of costumes and then Trunk or Treat. A huge thank you to FSA co-chairs, Rileigh Knight and Heather Quinn for coordinating this special tradition at SFCS. Also, a big thank you to the parents who decorated their trunks, handed out candy, and the room moms for coordinating wonderful classroom parties for the children. What a special and fun tradition for SFCS students!
Last week we celebrated the completion of the first quarter with our awards ceremony. As the certificates were being given out, we realized there were errors due to a glitch in the program calculating the grade points. Thank you for your grace, patience, and understanding, as our Ed Tech, Mrs. Chandler, revised the parameters in the grading software. All certificates have been signed and reissued.
Tomorrow we will celebrate All Saints Day, a Holy Day of Obligation in the Catholic church. Please be sure your child(ren) wears their Mass uniform tomorrow and not on Wednesday this week. We welcome parents, family, and friends to attend our weekly community Mass which begins at 10:00 a.m. Please sit on the left side of the church (Mary's side) upon entering.
This Friday, November 4th is a half day of school. Students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. There will be no aftercare or lunch served. Our teachers will participate in professional development for the afternoon.
I am grateful for your partnership and the opportunity to be of service to your family!
Yours in Christ,
Andrea Smith, M.Ed., LPC, NCC
Principal
Knights of Columbus - Donation
A special thank you to Mike Rudy and Tom Cramer from the Knights of Columbus, for graciously and generously presenting a check to St. Francis Catholic School to cover the cost of the curtains for the back of the stage. We are so grateful for the KOC's support of St. Francis Catholic School! We enjoyed having three representatives from the KOC attending our quarter one awards presentation on October 26th.
Q1 Awards Assembly
Congratulations to all the students recognized at the first quarter awards assembly last week! Students earned merit, honors and principal's award for academics. The first grade presented a banner of thanks to the Knights of Columbus for setting up the KOC Pumpkin Patch. Lastly, the fall athletic teams were introduced by Coach Weaver, and several trophies were presented to Mrs. Smith including those for the Boys Cross Country team, and Junior Girls Volleyball team. Way to go Wolves!
Prayerfulness
Prayerfulness: Cultivate a spirit of prayer and recollection
Our prayer :
Dear Jesus,
I desire to have you as my best friend. Help me always put you
first in my life.
Amen
During October, we accumulated too many items in our "Lost and Found" bin. Please ask your student to take a look at the selection of clothing, water bottles, and miscellaneous school supplies, that have been gathered this month. The items from the "Lost and Found" bin are put out during all lunches and are also available in the school office. As a reminder, any item which is not claimed by Tuesday, November 1, will be donated or discarded. Thank you for your assistance with keeping our "lost and found" inventory low.
Car Line
Parents and guardians in grades 3 - 8th, please be sure you are snaking through the first section of the parking lot when picking up your student(s) in the afternoon. Many cars are not winding through the parking lot, which results in cars lining up on Beach City Road. In order to avoid this issue, please follow the blue arrows as outlined on the car line diagram above, which illustrates the snaking around pattern in the first section of the parking lot.
Parents and guardians in grades PreK - 2nd should follow the green arrows on the diagram and snake through the parking lot as the barricades have been removed.
Thank you for your cooperation and helping to keep our campus safe!

Coach Mike Weaver - Athletic Director
Coach Mike Weaver - Athletic Director
While entering his (5) year as Head Coach of the Senior Boys’ Basketball Team, Coach Mike Weaver has been a SFCS faculty member for (3) years and been the school’s Athletic Director and sole PE Teacher for the past (2) years. Coach Weaver has raised the expectation level of the school’s Athletic and Physical Education Departments. With the new “Fitness Record Board” and the ever-expanding Ninja Warrior Course, he has brought in several innovative ideas to challenge the students in fun ways. In his role as the AD, “Coach” has bought cool, new jerseys for several school teams, and this past summer was able to use school funds to purchase a 10’ LED scorer’s table. The “pregame smoke show” was a big hit during basketball season last year and the SFCS teams always have the coolest looking warmup shirts.
Known for his “candy challenges,” Coach Weaver is always looking for ways to get students to go beyond their perceived limitations. A Pittsburgh native, Coach Weaver met his wife, Jessica, in 1996 and live in nearby Palmetto Hall. They have two grown children, Ashley and Jacob. In his spare time, Coach Weaver enjoys spending time with his family and is an avid runner. He is currently training to run in HHI Half Marathon.
Coach Weaver loves working with the SFCS families, faculty and staff, and looks forward to expanding the Athletic Department in the years to come. Thank you, Coach Weaver, for what you do!
Visual Arts - 3rd Grade - Mummy Cases
The story of Joseph, found in the book of Genesis, provides an excellent framework for acquainting students with the civilization and culture of ancient Egypt. The beautifully designed Egyptian mummy cases are a perfect example of symmetrical balance in a very simple, three-dimensional art form.
ANNUAL FUND
Thank you to all who have given to the SFCS annual fund so far! We are excited that the SFCS faculty and staff have almost reached their goal of 100% participation! The annual fund is one of the most important gifts we ask of our St. Francis community. Gifts to the St. Francis Catholic School Annual Fund provide students access to opportunities that distinguish the SFCS educational, spiritual, and social experiences. Your gift to the SFCS Annual Fund today, will make an impact on the lives of many young people at our school.
