Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences
February 2016
Dear Eagle Families,
Parent-Teacher-Student Collaboration Conferences are scheduled for Friday, February 12th from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm (you may also suggest another date/time). As a leadership development school we are teaching our student's habits that will lead to success in school and in life. The Parent-Student -Teacher Collaboration sessions are a great way to provide students with an opportunity to ensure that all voices are considered as we plan for success. Formally known as parent-teacher conferences, the Parent-Student-Teacher Collaboration Session will allow all members to take an active role in the learning process.
It is important that parents and students feel connected and involved in their learning, especially when critical decisions are being made to support student needs.
Below are the roles of all members:
Teacher
· Provides time for student to talk about his/her progress using data notebooks.
· Acts as a facilitator between student and parent as they set goals for success.
· Advises parents on ways they can help their child at home.
· Provides time for student to share his progress and ways parents/teacher can support him with finding success.
· Make sure more positive messages are shared with parents
*There may be parts of the meeting that the student may not need to be present, especially when talking about matters that can impact the child’s self-esteem. Teachers should ask students step outside while these matters are discussed.
Student
· Use previous assessment or data notebooks to communicate his/her progress to parent.
· Advise parent and teacher of ways they can support at home and school.
· Identify at least one goal for the 2015-2016 school year.
Parents
· Listen to students as they describe their progress.
· Pose questions for clarification and ways they can support.
· Ask teacher clarifying questions whenever there is information that is not clear.
· Bring pen and writing pad to record notes that will help you help your child be more successful.
· Ask teacher and student for tips on ways to support child at home.
We believe that if we are "proactive" and "begin with the end in mind" we can help our students pursue futures beyond what they can imagine!

QVE Valentine's Day Parties
Quail Valley Elementary welcomes and encourages parents and community members to get involved and share their time, talents, and skills with our students by volunteering.
As we prepare for Valentine's Day parties, we wanted to remind you of the following:
- Every parent that attends the parties should have a background check. Please use this link to access application: http://www.fortbendisd.com//site/Default.aspx?PageID=659. You will be asked to present your driver's license and check in using the Raptor system.
- We are asking that if you plan to attend parties, please do not bring younger/older siblings.
We want to provide our students with the best party experience and adhering to these expectations will help us provide a wonderful celebration!
We appreciate you!

QVE Introduces STAAR Olympics
After analyzing the areas in which our students needed more assistance, we put together mini Olympic STAAR Camps. These will be mini sessions in which teachers will team together to provide our students with hands-on activities that will allow them to demonstrate their learning in multiple ways.
After carefully examining both our math and science data, we found that our students struggle most with problem solving (word problems). Some students have trouble comprehending the text and what the problem is asking them to do, while others may struggle with fluency (reading with accurate speed) which will also interfere with their comprehension.
We realize that every student is different and therefore has various needs so we have tailored our camps to meet the needs of each student.
Each team has selected a country to represent and students will participate in an opening ceremony which will provide them with more information about our camps. We plan to start our Monday, February 8th.
We are excited to offer our students these learning opportunities that we hope will enhance their critical thinking skills and their ability to problem solve.

QVE 4th Graders participate in Writing Academy this Friday, February 5th
On Friday, February 5th, our 4th Grade Students and Teachers will participate in a Writing Academy. Teachers can received CPE in-service hours while our fourth graders benefit from participating in writing exercises!
Trained professionals from The Writing Academy from Teach Big! Conference Center in Kemah will come to QVE to conduct the sessions with our students and teachers.
Students will participate in exciting activities that emphasize: how to address expository prompts; how to add development and variety to your expository paper; how to begin an expository essay; how to conclude; and how to make the highest scores. They will experience “Read, Think, Write” prompts and real student papers! Pep Rallies will be sprinkled throughout the CAMP. Every minute will be spent in engaging activities that ready your students for success in life, in college or career, and on the STAAR test!!!! Students will walk away with materials they can use in the classroom.
We are excited to offer our students and teachers this learning opportunity!
