Justice
Justice is one of Oro Grande Classical Academy's seven virtues. One definition of justice is: the ideal of fairness, impartiality, etc., especially regarding the punishment of wrongdoing. Justice helps us decide what is fair and figure out what is right and what is wrong.
Just like weighing the two things - right and wrong - we teach the empathy tool asking students to consider caring for themselves and caring for others. Thinking of others in situations can help us understand their perspective. This can be a difficult concept to grasp, but children can learn from examples. We will be discussing real-life scenarios during weekly Toolbox lessons to help students apply the idea of empathy to their lives.
Toolbox Topics for December:
Anger:
Looking at this emotion and managing our reactions will be the focus of classroom lessons.
Empathy Tool:
I care for others, I care for myself.
Reinforcing the tools at home:
Ask your student about anger and the volcano comparison we talked about in class. Discuss what tools they can use before they get to the point of exploding.
Help your student describe others' perspectives by talking about this when situations with two sides come up in everyday life. It's a great time of year to remind students that caring for others can be rewarding.
A MESSAGE FROM OUR SCHOOL NURSE
Thank you, Oro Grande staff and families, for your diligence in continuing to screen and monitor for illness before coming to school and staying home when illness is present. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding our “sick day” guidelines and policies.
Our Holiday Programs are still running through the first half of December. If your family is in need of holiday assistance, please contact me for more information.
When students need a change of clothes for whatever reason, I am often able to accommodate that need through supplies in my clothes closet. Having these supplies available enables me to solve the issue and return the student back to their classroom with minimal disturbance to their school day.
Please consider donating some of your children’s out-grown clothes (gently used) or any new clothing. The greatest need is pants for both boys and girls sizes 4-6.
Any donations of any size is greatly appreciated.
CANNED FOOD DRIVE
Canned Food Drive November 29th--December 8th
Student Council and NEHS are asking for your help in donating to those in need this holiday. Please consider bringing in a nonperishable food item.
Items can be dropped off to your classroom teacher. Student council members will come and collect on Thursday, December 8th.
Two Grade Levels will be awarded for having collected the most cans! One winner in grades K-3 and another in grades 4-6. Winners will receive a special treat and a free dress day.
