Specials for the Week of December 15th-19th
Mark your calendars for our annual Holiday program on Thursday, December 18th at 9:00 a.m. We will be performing "Twas the Night Before Christmas." I have costumes for our class. The boys will be Santa and his reindeer and most of the girls will be carolers. Boys can wear jeans and a short sleeved t-shirt. Our elf can wear red tights or leggings and her black boots. Our girls can wear white tights and a dress or skirt.
Our holiday party also is next Thursday from 12:00- 1:00. Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Rogers are busy planning a fun time for all!
LANGUAGE ARTS
- Building our sight word vocabulary- new words this week: him, with, can, do, if
- Recognizing upper and lowercase letters, learning letter sounds, and recognizing color words
- Working on recognizing and creating rhyming words
- Counting, blending, and segmenting syllables
- Features of non-fiction text
- Finding information in non-fiction text
- Creating pictures and phonetically spelling words to tell a story- focusing on setting, characters, and at least 3 details about our story
- Working in guided reading groups- please have your child read the book to you and return it the next day
- Working independently in Daily Five centers to become better readers, writers, and spellers

- BUILDing Mathmeticians during our Math Workshop

Daily calendar math
- Counting by tens, fives, and ones to 100
- Exploring coins; penny, nickel, dime, and quarter
- Writing numbers and counting sets to 20
- 1-1 correspondence
- Comparing sets- more, less, same
- Using "number talks" to explain our math thinking
- Using the "Notice and Wonder" strategy to help us with problem solving

REMINDERS
- Your child may have forgotten something....
The kids have had two weeks to pick up their lost and found clothes. There are still over 100 items left! They don't recognize their stuff. Parents are invited to come and look for lost jackets, sweaters, shirts, etc. We will donate unclaimed clothing before winter break. Please write your child's name in all of his/her jackets!
Science Fair Projects are due, Thursday, December 18th. Please bring your science fair project to your classroom teacher. Make sure your name, grade, and teachers name are on the BACK of your project board. If you are working with more then one student, please put their grade, and teacher on it as well.
