BROOKDALE BOBCAT PRINTS
January 21, 2020
Principal Message
Last Wednesday, we honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with an assembly put on by some student leaders from Brookdale. The focus was on how even elementary students can serve others at home or in the community. Students were challenged to spend a little time on Monday serving others in some way – helping at home or in the community. We would love to post pictures of Brookdale students and their families serving others on our Instagram page. Please feel free to email me pictures and I will make sure they are posted to Brookdale’s Instagram. You can email me at cholman@fpschools.org. I am anxious to hear how our students made a difference!

HIGHLY CAPABLE STUDENT PROGRAM
It’s time to refer 3rd and 4th grade students for the 2020-2021 Highly Capable Student Program!
Do you have a student who…
- learns easily and quickly?
- thinks up unusual ways to solve hard problems?
- has a clever sense of humor?
- dislikes doing the same thing over and over?
- thinks logically and wants things to make sense?
- is open to new ideas?
- is persistent and wants to keep trying with difficult tasks?
If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, please refer your student to test for the Highly Capable Student Program. Please complete a Project Excel Program Referral packet online (https://bit.ly/2RRmKGb) by 4:00pm, March 13th. Testing materials are ordered the next day and late registrations may not be able to be accommodated.
Please be aware that students who live within the district boundaries will receive first consideration. Out-of-district students who attend Franklin Pierce schools must be granted another year’s release and will be placed in the program after all qualifying in-district students have been served.
If you have any questions, please contact Annette Burnett by phone at (253) 298-3062 or by email at aburnett@fpschools.org.
SCHEDULE CHANGES
The end of the day at Brookdale is very hectic. If you forgot to send a note in the morning (which is preferred) and need to call the school with a change to your child's schedule, please do so before 3:00 pm. After 3:00 the office is busy assisting students and parents and will not be able to get a message to your child's teacher before they leave for the day. All end of the day schedule changes must be made through the office, not with the classroom teacher.
SAFETY FIRST
To ensure the safety of our students, children are NOT to be dropped off or picked up at the front of the school.
Arrival: When dropping students off between 8:40-8:55:
* Enter the parking lot at the west entrance and proceed to the student drop-off zone. An adult
will be there to greet the students and direct them to the Multi-purpose room.
Dismissal: When picking students up:
* ONLY walkers will be excused through the front of the building. If you are driving a car to
pick up your child, you will need to go to the parent pick-up area. This is for the safety of ALL
students and adults.
* Students who are picked up by car will be escorted to the student pick-up zone in the parking
lot at the west end of the school. Cars will enter the parking lot at the west entrance and
proceed through the ‘valet’ style pick-up. This system goes quite quickly and ensures the safe
release of students to their families.
Any changes in your child’s end of day procedure MUST be received in the office a half hour before the end of the school day! Thank you so much for your help in making sure that your child arrives and leaves school safely!
UPDATE RECORDS

Please call our office at 253-298-3100 or send us a note with your most up-to-date address, phone and email information. Thank you!
