Muscular Dystrophy

Muscular dystrophy is a collection of diseases caused by genetic mutation of genes that interfere with the production of proteins to create healthy muscles.

There are many different types of muscular dystrophy and the symptoms emerge in childhood. However some types do not appear until adulthood. It primarily occurs in boys. The different types can cause permanent problems such as loss of walking or trouble breathing or swallowing. There are more issues that can emerge as well. There is no cure for it but therapy and medication can slow the effects and relieve pain. Muscles are simply deformed as a result.
