A Message From Coach Larry
Dear Stingrays Family,
Here’s the news: “Coach Larry is retiring.”
As many of you know, I celebrated a milestone birthday in February, and it is time to step aside from full-time coaching leadership to do all the sorts of things that a seventy-year-old coach and grandfather does. Beginning April 1, I will leave my position as lead site coach for our Stingrays team at the Cherokee County location.
Coaches Pike and Ian have collaborated closely with me about my decision, and together we have begun a transition to assure that your swimmers will be cared for and well-coached through a seamless transition. Even after April 1, I will assist with Tuesday practices through May and help with any team administration needs. It has been a privilege to be a Stingray and to develop as a coach under the example, leadership, and friendship of Ian and Pike.
I’m excited about what’s ahead for your swimmers. We have hired a couple of coaches and are working them into the groups now. Both Tom Keer and Ben Munster have been shadowing practices at CCAC--getting to know our swimmers and sharing in the workouts. More will be said about these able and experienced new coaches coming to the Stingrays. Please welcome Coach Tom and Coach Ben!
To the families and swimmers in the Youth and Senior groups I have worked with most closely these past three years: Thank you for your support and trust! It has been a privilege to coach your young people, to watch them develop as athletes, as competitors, and, most of all, as persons. We train for life at Stingrays. Swimming is our platform for preparing awesome young people for life. Please celebrate with my family and with me about this decision. Your swimmers will have many coaches and mentors during their swimming lifetime. Your swimmers will be blessed by a chorus of many coaching voices, mentors, and examples. I am grateful to have been one of those voices.
With deep thankfulness,
-Coach Larry
Spring Break
Stingrays swimmers (all groups) will have no practice over Spring Break. Spring Break will start after practice on Saturday, April 3rd. We will return to practice on Monday, April 12th.
Rest, Relax, Reflect - breaks are necessary and deserved to help the mind and body recover. Enjoy Spring Break and we will return ready to start working on a great Summer Season!
