We will be offering breakfast before school. Students are welcome to enter the cafeteria beginning at 8:25 to purchase a full breakfast or from the a la carte options. The breakfast price of $2.00 includes fruit or juice and milk. Our lunch prices are $2.50, and milk can still be purchased a Ia carte for $.50.
News From Physical Education
Welcome to Physical Education class:
To help your student get the most out of class, please send him/her with athletic shoes on their scheduled PE day. A water bottle will also help keep them hydrated when we are outside or when the wall closes and we no longer have access to a drinking fountain.

We need YOU! Please take a look at the Event Leader sign up and consider leading an event this school year. Remember, all of the great things we do at Spencer CANNOT happen without our fabulous parent volunteers! We are currently planning our event agenda for 2018 - 2019!
Events like Movie Night, Science Night, Ice Cream Social, Special Interest Day and more - won't happen unless we have SUPPORT from our parents & we need LEADERS! The PTO Board is always going to support events, but we cannot lead everything ourselves. Please sign up below to express your interest in leading one of these fantastic events. The event schedule will be planned based on your support.
Each year the PTO creates a special shirt to be worn throughout the school year for special days like the Roadrunner Run and Field Day. The students wear them on field trips and for different events during the school year. Each student will have a different color based on their grade level. More information about these shirts will be sent home on Friday, Sept. 14th.
Meanwhile, we are looking for SPONSORS for the Roadrunner Run that will take place on October 12th. Sponsors of the Roadrunner Run will have their business name and logo appear on the back of the shirt! The cost of sponsorship is $200. Please contact Kristie Hopka at firstname.lastname@example.org if you or someone you know owns a business that would be interested in sponsoring.
In conjunction with the rest of the district, Spencer will be holding a Pink Out on Friday, September 21 where we encourage our students to wear pink in support of breast cancer research. An optional Pink Week long-sleeved shirt is available to order online for $15 at:
To be guaranteed delivery in time for the Pink Out on Friday September 21st, orders must be placed by September 10th. Order forms will also be going home with your student in the next few days. All proceeds go to St. Joe's Cancer Center in Brighton.
Note: Only long-sleeved is offered, select delivery to Brighton Area Schools for free shipping, this is NOT the annual Spencer t-shirt order which will be sent home in the next couple weeks.
Last year Hornung/Maltby had a Destination Imagination team make it all the way to Global Finals! It was such a great experience, and we are hoping to grow the program this year district-wide. We are in need of kids willing to use their creative juices and adults willing to be team managers. Each team consists of 5-7 team members, and they typically meet after school or on weekends to work on their challenge. The challenges to choose from were just released: Check out:

It’s never too early to discover STEAM. FIRST LEGO LEAGUE JR is designed to introduce STEAM concepts to kids grades 1-3, while exciting them through a brand they know and love − LEGO®.
Guided by two adult coaches (usually a parent) and FIRST LEGO LEAGUE JR. Core Values, students build models using LEGO® Education WeDo and create Show Me posters to present what they learned. The program focuses on building interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEAM) through a real-world challenge – to be solved by research, critical thinking, and imagination.
