Hoot News
What a great start to the 2017-2018 school year! Thanks for your positive energy! I have enjoyed getting into your classrooms for AP introductions this week and surprising (or scary a few of you) you with a goodie bag on Friday! Looking forward to lots of fun like that this year. After all, who do I appreciate most? TEACHERS!
FACULTY MEETINGS:
We will have a faculty meeting on Monday starting at 3:15. I hope to have the yearly schedule of faculty meetings for you on Monday.
ASSEMBLY:
Thank you for stepping in and helping to organize and supervise our first assembly! I saw many teachers redirecting students, helping with traffic, and assisting to make the assembly run smoothly. We hope to get more students involved in running assembly (so we are more student centered). More on that soon. Thank you 4th grade for your awesome work in getting 4th graders out safely. NICE JOB!
RAINY DAY DISMISSAL:
We'll be prepared next time now won't we!!
PPfT REMINDERS:
Teachers, please be aware of the following PPfT dates:
- Sept. 5th: Online training must be completed (available in HCP)
- Sept. 11th: Individual Learning Plan Due
- Sept. 11 - Dec 8th: Classroom Visits (unannounced)
- Sept. 29 - Dec 8th: Announced Observations
- Oct. 27: SLO submissions Due
Your appraiser will contact you directly to schedule your announced observation. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to have a pre-observation conference with your appraiser Sept.18, 19, or 20th. There will be a sign up sheet posted in the lounge by the office beginning Monday 8/24. *If Bradford is your appraiser, please sign up for Tuesday, Sept. 19th. A sub will be available on those dates to provide classroom coverage. You may bring a lesson plan to discuss if you wish, and administrators will go over items for which they will be looking during the visit.
STAFF FLU SHOTS:
HEB will be on campus to give staff flu shots on 9/7/17 from 3:15-3:45pm. All immunizations are given by trained, licensed pharmacists. See important info from HEB below:
- We will bill Aetna for employees that wish to be vaccinated.
- For employees without Aetna insurance I can collect directly from the patient at the time of service(exact cash or check is needed). The cash rate is $39 for quad and $12 for trivalent
- Employees covered by Aetna insurance have a zero copay. They will need to present their Aetna ID card
- We are able to vaccinate anyone 7 years and older without a prescription. If someone under the age of 7 needs a vaccination I will need a pediatrician's prescription (please note that the youngest we can vaccinate is 4 years old due to indications of the vaccine)
- We will arrive 15 minutes prior to our start time to set up and will stay from 315-345 pm.
- Dependents are welcome.
- We will bring extra vaccine in case there is larger than expected turn out so there is no worry about running out of vaccine.
ECST TRAINING:
In September teachers will meet with an MTSS coach for ECST training. This training will be during your conference period in the computer lab. It will teach teachers how to enter info (parent phone calls, behavior observations, academic concerns) into the ECST system. ECST is the best way to track student goals, student behavior and parent communication. See your grade level's date and time below:

LIBRARY NEWS
COMPUTER LAB
The computer lab will be closed for Istation training on Tue & Wed (8/29 &30).
Thanks for everyone’s flexibility in developing the Computer Lab schedule this year. The schedule is posted outside the lab and is always available on this Google docs link:
Please let me know when you plan to bring your class to the lab for the first time. I would like about 5-10 minutes to review the basic computer labprocedures and expectations.
In addition to the fixed computers in the lab, Doss has a mobile cart with a class set of Chromebooks and sets of small Samsung Tablets (Nooks) that teachers can check out for their class. The self-serve Chromebook cart checkout sheet is available on Google docs at https://docs.google.com/a/austinisd.org/spreadsheets/d/1FKrmCZEsNcgCaEPXPYAd-WGdpTsXCmOjoDgtXgP_-Cs/edit?usp=sharing . Please contact the Library to schedule checking out the Nooks.
PINEAPPLE CHART
Soon you will find a Pineapple Chart in the teacher's lounge by the office! This is a way for us to communicate with each other about the awesome things going on in our classrooms. We can learn a lot from each other! Some of the most valuable skills I have picked up as a teacher came from informally observing my colleagues in their classrooms. When you have a fun, innovative lesson planned and would be willing to let other teachers come watch, put it up on the chart with your name, a time, and a brief description of what you will be doing.
This is not for official observations! There will be no feedback unless you specifically ask for it from whomever shows up. When you visit other rooms, nothing will be required of you except an open mind and respectful observation. Maybe you visit a room because you want to see another teacher try a new strategy before you do. Maybe it's because you want to learn from their classroom management. Maybe you also want to know more about the topic they are teaching! Whatever your reason for visiting, we can learn all kinds of things from the amazing teachers around us.
Go here for more information on Pineapple Charts.
