Cape's Mission & Vision

Mission: To provide a safe and supportive learning community where every student experiences success.

Vision: We believe that the most promising strategy for achieving the mission of Cape Elementary is to develop our capacity to function as a professional learning community.

Message from Ms. Osterholm and Mrs. Sund

Dear Cape Families,

April was a wonderful month at Cape Elementary. We had a great turnout for our online PTO Silent Auction along with twenty-six families attending our PTO/SAC Meeting via Zoom. Our Quarter 3 SOAR celebration was a HUGE success with 87% of Cape students attending. Students who reached their behavior and reading goals enjoyed an ice cream sundae and participated in a “Family Feud” competition. Special thanks to PTO for purchasing the ice cream and all the toppings for our yummy sundaes for the SOAR Celebration. This month we also had over 400 students attend the principal luncheon and earn special prizes. Way to go, Cape kids!

Our 4th and 5th graders did an outstanding job on the ELA Writing portion of the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) and our 3rd graders also rocked the ELA portion of FSA. Our students will continue to show everyone what they have learned in English Language Arts, Math and Science! FSA will continue in the month of May. Please look for the dates in this newsletter and on our website. Limited homework will be given during FSA testing days.

Please make sure your children are:

  • well rested.

  • fed a nutritious breakfast.

  • sent off with love, smiles and hugs.

  • at school each day by 7:45.

Mark your calendars now: May 3 through May 5 is Staff Appreciation Week at Cape Elementary. Please take a few minutes to thank a teacher or staff member during this week. We have special treats and activities planned for our staff all week. Special thanks to Quality Pest Control of SWFL, CC First United Methodist Church, Vineyard Community Church and our awesome PTO for your donations. If you would like to donate to our treats, please email us at

Cape will have Celebrations of Learning, end of year awards ceremonies, via Zoom for kindergarten to 4th grade on Tuesday, June 14. 5th Grade Completion Ceremony will be held via Zoom Wednesday, June 15. Please look in this newsletter and on our website for the specific Zoom times and mark your calendars now.

Cape is a special place to work. We are honored to be the leaders of this great school! Please continue to contact us via email or phone call when you have a concern, question or comment!

Staff Appreciation Week...May 3rd to 7th!

We are planning a fantastic week for all 100 Cape Staff members! If you are interested in donating a gift card for $5 or $10 to Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, McDonalds, Wawa, Office Max, Target or anywhere...please drop off at front office or you can put in an envelope and give to an adult at PPU or drop off (addressed to Mrs. Sund). We appreciate your support as we can't make this happen for our staff without our Cape families and community business partners.

We'd like to give a special shout out to C21 Sunbelt Realty-Jim Fischer and Quality Pest Control of SWFL for their donations of gift cards!

PTO News!

The end of the 2020-2021 school year is almost here! We are so thankful for each and every person who has helped support our great school! The Spring Fling Online Auction was a huge success raising over $9000. PTO was able to contribute $8000 toward the purchase of the new playground using funds raised during the Fun Run. It's happening! The new Kaboom playground is being installed as I type. My boys cannot wait to update me everyday after school on the progress. This would not have been possible without our wonderful parents and guardians. Thank you to the teachers and staff who invest their time, energy, and love in our children.

A huge thank you to Noelle Vilim who has accepted the position of Treasurer for the 2021-2022 school year. We're happy to have her back after taking a few years off to obtain her Civil Engineering license. Camilla Schlager has also offered her help as our social media coordinator. Her background in marketing as well as her previous experience as part of a PTA is truly a blessing. We are excited to build our social media presence to be able to communicate more information on school happenings to you but more importantly to connect & interact with more Cape families! If this year has taught us anything it is that we are all in this together and connecting with each other is so very important.

We appreciate each and every one of you and are so thankful to have the opportunity to support our students, teachers, & staff at Cape Elementary!

End of Year Events: Important! Mark Your Calendars Now!

Attendance To The Last Day of School!

Impacts of chronic absences (unexcused and excused absences):

  • Kindergarten and 1st grade student’s missing 10% or more of school can stall in their progress in reading and denies them the equal opportunity to learn as they progress in school.
  • As a result of early learning absences these can flare in middle and high school, and can lead to dropping out of school.
  • Early attendance gaps turn into achievement gaps that create graduation gaps.
  • Attendance barriers can vary from health issues, learning struggles and mental health issues related to trauma and violence.

Please know that your School Social Worker cares about your student and their education success. Contact the School Social Worker if your child is experiencing chronic absences. Let’s make attendance important to the last day of school!

Thank you!
