Lost and Found Items: We have an excessive amount of clothing, outer wear, etc. We have items on display during lunch periods and students are encouraged to check it for lost items. Children don't always know their lost items when they see them, so if your child is missing an item, please encourage him/her to check on the Lost/Found rack during lunch. If your child has lost an item, please stop in the office so that you can check the rack personally. The PTO is also working on providing a picture inventory for those final unclaimed items. The rack will also be available on June 2nd at the Spring Fling. Unclaimed items will be sent to Goodwill after the last day of school. Thank you for your help!

ALICE Drills - Students will participate in the spring ALICE drills on May 24th. As you know from previous communications, A.L.I.C.E. is an acronym that stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. A.L.I.C.E. represents a relatively new way of thinking and responding to a school safety emergency. We appreciate the fact that talking to students about intruders and significant safety situations is not pleasant, and can be downright scary. The Tohickon Valley faculty and staff handle these drills with the utmost care and concern. We share important information with students while also keeping these discussions developmentally appropriate. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact Dr. Bradley directly at 215.529.2502 or obradley@qcsd.org.
PTO Leadership for 2017-2018 - As you know, the PTO had posted two vacancies (2nd Vice President and Treasurer) available for the 2017-18 school year. The official vote took place at the May 9th PTO meeting. Since there was only one interested candidate present at the PTO meeting, the PTO was unable to vote in the new candidate because the PTO bylaws require an odd number of leaders for voting purposes. Thus, the PTO leadership will not include new PTO leaders. Rather, the five existing PTO leaders will remain in place for 2017-2018 in the following roles:
Melissa O'Rourke (President)
Christine Weinschenk (Treasurer)
Michelle Kuremsky (Vice President)
Stephanie Ruane (Corresponding Secretary)
Dana James (Secretary)
Managing Children's Behavior - Parent Training (June 1st) - QCSD Pupil Services is offering a workshop for families to help manage children's behaviors in the home. Just in time for summer, you are encouraged to check out the flyer here if you're interested!
Wednesday folders were voted by families to be a preferred means of communication in the PTO's recent survey. Wednesday folders will be collected after use on 5/24 so that we can recycle them for next year. Thank you for your partnership this year!
Field Day 2017 and BBQ Lunch are this Thursday! We are grateful for the support of the volunteers who will help to make Field Day 2017 a hit. Please be sure to send the students with sunscreen on as it is expected to be hot on Thursday. They will have access to a water station throughout the day. We're looking forward to a fun, safe day!

Spring Greetings to you,
The countdown to the end of the year has started!
Parents - your help is still needed to fix a growing problem! Please do not allow students to bring electronic toys, trading cards or gadgets to school. Recently, we have noticed that many children are bringing in spinning fidget toys, the latest craze! While fidget objects can be beneficial to those who need them, the new spinning fidgets have become quite distracting in our schools as students are using them as toys rather than their intended purpose. We ask that you do not allow your child to bring them to school as they have become the source of arguments, theft, and distraction in the classroom. Students who usually use a fidget item are asked to consider an alternative device to avoid confusion. As you know, the school cannot be responsible for any of lost, stolen, or broken items from home, so we really appreciate your help in resolving this matter.
With warm, spring weather upon us, I would like to mention a very important safety precaution. Please do not allow your child to wear open-toed, flip-flop, or sandal-type footwear. These can be very dangerous when entering and exiting buses, while walking in the multipurpose room or on the playground.
The Placement Team is actively planning for next year. Please feel free to email me directly at obradley@qcsd.org to share information about your child(ren) that will be helpful to the Placement Team in selecting your child’s next teacher/class. Also, as you’re planning for the summer break, remember that the last day of school, June 7th, is a full day of school!
In conclusion, thank you for reading the eTV News this year. I hope that you have found this electronic newsletter to be an informative and accessible communication vehicle. Next school year, you can expect to receive monthly eTV News communication on the first Wednesday of each month.
As always, thank you for partnering with us and Working Together to Be Our Best! Enjoy the wonderful month of May!

ATTENDANCE REMINDER
Parents are reminded that they have three (3) school days to return a signed, written excuse verifying a child’s absence. As per PA State law, excuse blanks cannot be accepted more than three days after a student returns to school. Emails to the school office are appreciated, but do not replace the written excuse. Parents are welcome to call the office (215-529-2509) to verify that the written excuse has been submitted by the student. We would like to partner with you in any way necessary to facilitate compliance with Compulsory School Attendance Laws, including meeting to develop a School Attendance Improvement Plan (SAIP).
- If a written excuse is not submitted within the three day return window, the excuse is permanently considered illegal or “unexcused” by the state.
- If a student accumulates three (3) unexcused absences, parents will receive a written “First Legal Notice” from the school district with a warning that future unexcused absences may result in a citation from District Court.
- Once a student compiles ten (10) total absences (including trip requests, half day absences, etc.), parents will be required to submit a doctor’s excuse for an absence to be considered excused. Parents will be notified in writing if this occurs.
- If your family is planning for your child(ren) to be away for several school days, there is an “Educational Trip Request” form that needs to be filled out and submitted to the school office. Parents can download a form from the T.V. website or call the office for a hard copy. All trip requests must be pre-approved by the building Principal and should be submitted at least 10 days in advance.
- More information and the QCSD Elementary Attendance letter can be found on the TV website. All information written above reflects Pennsylvania State Compulsory Attendance laws.
