NEWS FROM DR. CHAUSSEE
Today the high will be in the upper 80’s! No need to talk about inclement weather! However...
This fall we’ve had a number of nice days and which meant little time spent indoors for recess and not much worry about coats, hats, gloves, snow boots, etc. But, of course, that will come to an end, therefore, the weather becomes an important factor with school age children. After the Thanksgiving break, we know snow will be on the ground sometime soon. When snow arrives it seems that it complicates traffic and other safety issues at school. Again, as stated many times in the past, cooperation and patience will help out in every situation. Please keep these points in mind:
No matter how much snow there is, please park as close to curbs as possible. Large vehicles can not get through 155th St. very easily or at all when cars are not parked close to the curb.
If you’re not sure where you can’t park and get out of your car, NO PARKING signs are posted. Please pull forward at most places where cars park to allow more drivers to park and exit quickly.
No matter what the weather, drivers need to stay in or near their car when in the front of the school at arrival or dismissal. This is a fire lane.
Each day is unpredictable in deciding whether to go outside for recess or not. Playground conditions, the temperature and wind chill, and precipitation all are factors in that decision. Sometimes that decision isn’t made until mid to late morning. Therefore, the children should dress each day as if we are going outside. Many students come to school dressed inappropriately for the weather. Nevertheless, those students will go outside.
When school is cancelled due to weather, each family will get a call from MPS Notify notifying you of the closing early in the morning.
We use our two recesses a day as our mask breaks for the children which are needed. It will make life a little harder if we stay inside. However, teachers will try to find a time to go for a walk just to get outside for a short time making the need for warm clothes more important.
There may be some occasions when attending school due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances may not be advisable. Student safety and learning is always the top priority for Millard Public Schools. With that in mind, Millard Public Schools will utilize a few options including 1) eLearning days 2) two hour late starts and 3) cancelling school. Late start and eLearning days will not need to be made up at the end of the school year.
One more plea: We continue to work hard to keep Covid out of the school. At times it seems for naught when people are gathering without safety protocols such as masks and then potentially get Covid and bring into the school. The extra cleaning, remote lessons, emails, questions, etc. take their toll on kids and staff. Please help us!

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR
Thank you for supporting the Book Fair this week at Abbott! We have a couple class shopping days still to go next Monday and Tuesday. Orders can also be placed by emailing Mrs. Cryer to be filled at school or by ordering online at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/graceabbottelementaryschool2
For those that used the digital e-wallet option, any remaining balance can be used online at the Scholastic Store. As an alternative, if you would prefer to donate that balance to the school, that is also an option. Please email Mrs. Cryer if you would like to do this. You can check your balance online or we are happy to check it for you.
Thank you again for supporting our school!
