Spring SOL Testing Information
May 2024
Who Must Test and Why?
All students who have not yet earned a Verified Credit for a subject must take the SOL test for the current course they are in, to earn the Verified Credit needed for graduation. In addition, for Federal Accountability, we must test all Biology students and every student once in math during their high school career. A score of at least 400 is needed to pass a SOL test.
Important Test Information
Parents/Guardians,
LCPS will be administering Spring Non Writing SOL tests to students in grades 3-12 during May and early June. Tests are administered as part of the Virginia Assessment Program and provide useful data to parents, teachers, and school administrators on what students have learned during instruction.
At LCHS, SOL test dates are as follows:
Mon., 5/20 - Reading (all juniors)
Mon., 5/20 - Math (students who need to earn a VC and students we are required to test for Federal Accountability)
Tues., 5/21 - Science (students who need to earn a VC and ALL Biology students)
Tues., 5/21 - History (students who need to earn a VC)
We will begin testing at 9:30am each day, as these are untimed tests. It is very important for your child to arrive to their testing room by 9:30am or they will not be able to test. Teachers have been preparing for this test, a graduation requirement, in class with their classes. Some information to note about this test:
Each student must arrive ON TIME to their testing room by 9:30am to school on test day(s). Please help make sure they are well-rested and prepared to test. Students who arrive late will not be permitted into the testing room.
Each student MUST bring their FULLY CHARGED LCPS-issued device (Chromebook for most) for testing. We will not have loaner devices available on test day for those who forgot them or did not charge them. Please help your child be prepared for testing. Any student having issues with their device (physical damages, random clicking, key(s) not working, charging port, etc.) should bring their device to room 105 BEFORE May 17th to see John Bowers or Eyler Santos.
Students will be given their testing time and room assignment prior to the test dates. Students should check their LCPS email account for their test location and other important reminders after noon on Thursday, May 16th.
Students are permitted to have water and a paper book to read after the test. No other drinks, food, or electronic devices (phones, electronic watches, Airpods, or any Bluetooth devices) will be allowed near the students while testing. All phones will be turned OFF during testing, per VDOE directions.
Please refrain from scheduling your student for appointments during our test dates. We appreciate your help with this!
Please do not schedule an early dismissal for "when testing is finished" or a guesstimated time. We will not dismiss individual students from the test room as that creates a potential testing irregularity for students in that room.
After testing, Expedited Retakes will be offered to students who earn a failing score between 375-399 on any SOL test. The retake test date will be in the early June timeframe.
If you have any questions about SOL tests, please contact your student’s teacher or me. We thank you for your support at home!

For Students - What to Do and Expect
Prepare Your Chromebook
Students must use their LCPS issued device to take SOL tests. Please make sure your Chromebook is updated (Instructions to Update) and charges correctly. Students must bring their FULLY CHARGED Chromebook on test day, along with their charger, in case testing takes the full two blocks. Any student having tech issues with their device (physical damages, random clicking, key(s) not working, charging port, etc.) should bring their device to room 105 BEFORE Friday, May 7th to see John Bowers or Eyler Santos. LCPS is not providing loaner Chromebooks during testing.
Check Your School Email
Students will be sent information to their school email account on Thursday, May 16th. This information will include their testing time, location, and assigned seat number, if applicable.
Test Day
Students scheduled for testing will report directly to their SOL location at the start of the test session. They DO NOT report to their regular class first. Bring the FULLY CHARGED LCPS Chromebook and other test materials.
Students are permitted to have water and a paper book to read after the test. No other drinks, food, or electronic devices (phones, electronic watches, Airpods, or Bluetooth devices) will be allowed near the students while testing.
