Cougar Courier

Greetings from Dr. Garcia-Groves!

October 29, 2022

November is almost here and we are officially in the second quarter of school. Thank you to everyone who came to Parent Teacher Conferences!

Boys basketball will be holding tryouts this week for boys in 6th-8th grade. They must have an up to date physical on file to participate in tryouts. Physicals that are dated prior to April are not valid. Please use Eventlink to complete all paperwork. Here is the link: https://eventlink.com/

Please mark your calendars for November 8th which will be an asynchronous eLearning day and scholars will be learning from home. This is election day.

Our book fair opened up on October 27th and runs through the end of the coming week. Having libraries at home is a great way to cultivate a love for reading and reading 20 minutes a day is one of the best ways to improve literacy and overall academic skills.

If you are a parent of a current 8th grader, families can check out Adams High School on Tuesday, November 1 and Washington on Wednesday, November 2 at 6:30 p.m. We hope you are able to learn more about what each of these high schools has to offer. Additional information can be found later in the newsletter. You can also attend the SBCSC Showcase of Schools on November 15th at the Century Center. Doors open at 6:30 and the event goes until 8:00 pm.

Monday, October 31st is the last day to complete the application for free and reduced lunch. Here is the link https://family.titank12.com. We are one of the few states that charge families textbook fees, and this is an opportunity to reduce those fees for qualifying families.

Our IB learner attribute for November is caring. We will be encouraging scholars to think about ways they can be caring at school, at home and in their community.

In honor of our football team making history by winning the City Championship for the first time as Clay International Academy, we are having a spirit week! More information can be found below.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Blessings,

Dr. Garcia-Groves

Please note that high schoolers must be up to date on immunizations by October 18, middle school students by November 1, and elementary schoolers by November 15. Dress Code Reminder

I want to take a moment and remind parents that we have a dress code. Spandex shorts are not allowed. CIA shirts can be worn any day and pant colors are black, blue and khaki. Scholars should not be wearing sweatpants to school. We appreciate your help with making sure scholars adhere to the dress code.

We are in need of uniform clothes for our Cougar Closet, particularly for our older scholars. If you have any clothes you would like to donate, please bring them to the main office. Thank you!
