October 16- Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque
The word humility comes from the Latin word, humus, which literally means "soil". Humus is the organic component of that soil. It is the combination of the dying and the living --the dead plant parts and the living plant parts--the decomposition of materials and living microorganisms. In this unnoticed place, what was buried comes alive. In this deep, dark, wonderful place, new life grows in silence.
The grace of humility. A place where one dies to oneself. The humble walk silently through life, decidedly unnoticed. Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque became the humus from which seed could grow. She made herself available for the living word Jesus spoke to her. Her mission then became to sow the field.
Jesus, I pray for the grace of humility, to die to myself so that you might create new life in me. May I always recognize the powerful love you have for me, which consumes your most Sacred Heart.
