Counselor Corner - Sue Ritchey
The Class of 2020
It was a beautiful May afternoon. My niece came running across the yard in the sunshine, proudly showing off her kindergarten round up t-shirt. “Future Hornet….Class of 2020”. At the time, 2020 seemed like a very distant year, but I did like the sound of it. Being a school counselor, I imagined the commencement speeches that could refer to “Hindsight is 20/20”, as many of these speeches are about reflection and decision-making. I chuckled about it then. Who would have guessed how interestingly unpredictable 2020 would become!
You see, “Hindsight is 20/20” is a saying, which means, "It's easy to know the right thing to do after something has happened, but it's hard to predict the future." For example, once a large event like graduation has taken place, it is easy to reflect and point out things that could have made the event better. Afterward, it seems obvious that we should have thought of certain things ahead of time; that is the 20/20 vision; you see it with more clarity. Since it is difficult to predict the future, and even more in these extraordinary times, planning graduation ceremonies and senior awards presents new challenges to us all. There is little hindsight to help make those decisions. However, events in new forms are well in the works, all over Lenawee County. The creativity and thought put in to these events has been astonishing! The Class of 2020 will be remembered, in a unique way, and I think that is EPIC!
Seniors, be proud of all your accomplishments, but know that you have so much more to achieve. Reflect on your experiences, and let your 20/20 vision guide you. Do your own research. Listen to advice from people you admire. Learn from your mistakes and rejoice in your successes.
Be kind and help others, because you never regret doing the right thing!
Congratulations to our Seniors!

Do you have personal items at the TECH Center? Do you have items that need to be returned to your instructor
We want to start the process of returning students’ personal items and gathering TECH Center items. Each program has been assigned a date for pick up/return of items. We are asking parents to pick up/drop off items between 3 – 6 pm. Students may not pick up/return these items per the E.O. Parents will pull into the bus loop and pull up to the designated area. Parents will not get out of their cars, but pull up and roll down their passenger side window. We will hand them the items while wearing gloves and face masks. The same process will happen at the CSF. Parents will pull in to the campus, make the loop stopping at a designated area.
Do you have a polished resume? We are here to help you!
Career Preparation Services would love to take this time to help students develop their resume or brush up on ones they have already started. Students, please email Katie Cole at katie.cole@lisd.us if you are interested in help with your resume. We can provide a resume template for students who need a starting point and also review/edit current resumes.
Thriving in the Pandemic - Gary Cripe, School Social Worker
Here are some tips for important aspects of lifestyle that can help lead to good balanced health:
Sleep: Avoid naps during the day and try to go to bed at a similar time each night.
Exercise: Do the hula hoop, skip rope or just do some jogging-in-place (jog in one spot)
Good Nutrition: try to reduce your meat and dairy consumption while eating more plant based foods.
Attitude: adopt a quote or mantra to help you through a difficult time or to live your life by. “Tough times never last but tough people do”. “Good, better, best, never let it rest, until the good is better, and the better is best”.
Mindfulness: Get lost in a hobby that you enjoy (wood working, pottery, writing, crochet, knit, paint etc.) Use this time at home to learn something new.
Relaxation: (Progressive relaxation exercise) while lying face up; start at your feet and tighten those muscles for @5 seconds then relax, then tighten and relax your calf muscles and keep going through muscle groupings (Thighs, glutes, stomach, back, chest, arms, hands, neck, face). Coordinate your tensing and relaxing with deep breathing as you do this technique. Do several repetitions. If you practice this regularly it will allow you to gain more control of muscles during tense situations.
Socialization: Go old-fashioned (referring to our present state of technology) write a letter to someone you care about. If you like it write to several people you care about.
