Welcoming our Spanish Friends

It has been excellent to welcome many of the Spanish children our Year 6 enjoyed meeting on their visit to Segovia in early June. They have had an action packed week both in school and out. On Tuesday they had the opportunity to experience Forest Schools in our grounds. On Wednesday, Mrs Shawcross our Spanish teacher, led mixed teams of visitors and Year 6 children in a scavenger hunt around school, before they all headed off on a walk to Fountains Abbey. Thanks to the parents for bringing in sandwiches, snacks and treats, and several of the Friends who delivered all the food. The children had a wonderful picnic in the great Yorkshire countryside.

On Thursday the Spanish children had a break from school when they went to York to visit the Castle Museum, Minster and National Railway Museum. Today they have gone to the Forbidden Corner with our Year 6 children and tomorrow they will come along to the summer fair. We expect they will need to have a good rest when they arrive home!

This amazing exchange programme could not happen without the hard work of many members of staff and parents, thanks to all of them but a special mention to Mrs Shawcross and Mrs Binks for leading and coordinating both the visit to Spain and the activities of the visitors here.

Year 1 Explore

The Year 1 geography topic is 'What is it like to live in Ripon?' and on Tuesday they had a great walk around the city exploring some of the sights and attractions that Ripon has to offer.

Thank you to the Rotary Club

The Rotary Club of Ripon Rowels kindly present illustrated dictionaries to all our Year 2 pupils every year. The books are beautiful and packed full of words and illustrations. We hope the children treasure them. Our thanks to the Ripon Rowels.

Volunteer Sewers

Mrs Beckett would be ever sew grateful if anyone out there could help Year 2 complete their African art inspired patterned tea towels. We know from last year that the beautiful cloths will need hemming when they arrive. If you are able to help, please let the office know, thank you.

Oscar's Holiday Club

We have arranged with the PFI company who manage the school site to have access to school for Oscar's in the last two weeks of the summer holidays. Unlike schools in NYCC sites, we do not have full (or free!) access to school in the holidays, which can make running the holiday club more challenging. However, we are exited that we have started to plan for the summer holidays and can confirm that our summer holiday dates are:

Tuesday 20th, Wednesday 21st, Thursday 22nd August

Summer Fair: Only one day to go! Saturday 22nd June sees our summer fair, running from 12 until 3.30pm. A fantastic family event open to the whole community: Bar, BBQ, Forest School activity and bouncy castle plus many more stalls and a special guest. As well as sponsorship from Hambleton Roofing, we have gained further generous support from local fireworks' company 'Bright Star Fireworks' and Renaissance Hair and Beauty Boroughbridge, which is amazing - thank you!

Fancy Dress Fun Run: Thank you for all sponsor forms and money. There will be a prize for the child who raises the most sponsor money! Also remember that runners can ‘dress up’ if they wish and there will be a prize for best fancy dress too! Good luck!

Summer Fair Helpers: As much help as possible is always good even of the last minute variety, so if you can help please contact the Friends.

Competition Tent: All children will be welcome to enter our competitions for the summer fair. We will be holding a Lego model, miniature garden, and drawing a picture on the story book theme competitions. New for this year, parents are invited to put their baking skills to the test. All cakes will be sold through a silent auction. The cake which raises the most money will win a prize for its creator!

School Disco: 5th July sees the last disco of the school year. Please see our lovely poster for full details. Our thanks to Lily who has done an amazing job this year, making sure all our posters are colourful, eye catching and full of useful information!

If you need to contact us, email rcpsfriends@gmail.com or send us a facebook message Thank you.
