  • Born in Devonshire, England

  • Queen Elizabeth I of England sent Drake on a mission to explore and to seek treasure and spices

  • He set sail from England in 1577 with 165 crewmen and five ships

  • Drake and his crew suffered hardships such as storms at sea, starvation, illness, and attempted mutinies

  • He had died of a fever. Divers continue to search for the lead coffin.

  • Circumnavigates the world

  • The leader of an expedition intended to pass around South America, through the Strait of Magellan, and explore the coast that lay beyond

  • Drake successfully completed the journey and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth I upon his triumphant return

  • He later saw action in the English defeat of the Spanish Armada

Impact on World

Francis Drake did not have much of an impact back then and in the modern world today. Francis Drake did not achieve a lot by discoveries, but his life as an “explorer” was mostly waging war on Spain and planning with his ally Queen Elizabeth I
