Capitalism

Capitalism is a political and an economic system where a country's trade and industry where private owners are in control control instead of the state.



Communism

Communism is a way of organizing a society where government owns the things that are used to make and transport products. A reason that people believe that communism is a good thing is because of war. Employers said that they hired workers so that they could kill for them. In World War One millions of workers died. In World War Two only 15-20% fired at the enemy.


Rise of Communism in Russia

Russia became communist because the autocratic government failed to provide food to its people and wanted World War I. Then the democratic Provisional didn't end the war and the lack of food.

Gathering Allies

NATO is a political and military alliance. The US is a NATO along with the other NATO Allies are Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. NATO intended to protect North American and European countries from attack, primarily by the USSR.
The Warsaw Pact was the Soviet Union’s response to West Germany joining NATO. It was for For the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. The title used to be Warsaw Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance.


Containing Communism

Korea:
Communism was a success because the mission was accomplished, the communists were stopped, and the Republic of South Korea was preserved. North Korea is still communism.

Vietnam:
Communism failed in Vietnam. Vietnam was split into North and South Vietnam. The North was Communism and the south was Capitalism. The North tried to take over the South, but they failed.

Afghanistan:
Communism was a success in Afghanistan. The United States and their allies did contain communism, but the fall of the Soviet Union was less of the United States work and more the fault of the Soviets.



The Fall of Communism

Berlin:
The fall of the Berlin Wall happened as fast its rise. There were signs that the Communist bloc was getting weaker, but the East German Communist leaders said East Germany just needed a little change instead of a drastic revolution. East German citizens did not agree.


Velvet Revolution:

The fall of the Velvet Revolution was caused because citizens began to grow tired of Communism and its repressing force. On January 1,1977 more than 250 human rights activists signed a manifesto called Charter 77. This was a manifesto that criticized the government for failing to implement human right provisions of a document it had signed. Such human rights provisions as states own constitutions, and international covenants on political, economic, civil, and cultural rights. This manifesto showed the beginning of the desire of the citizens of Czechoslovakia to have their human rights respected by the government.
