Lily Barret's Patch is GOING TO SPACE!

Anne Arundel County Public School System’s SSEP Mission 13 to ISS Patch Design Competition engaged 6th grade students from four Middle Schools. Over 850 students were engaged in lessons designed by a committee of Art teachers that combined Art Standards with the history and tradition of Mission Patches. Students were charged with including symbols that best represented SSEP and Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Over 850 patches were submitted at the school level and evaluated with a rubric. Finalists were judged by a District-level committee comprised of the Coordinator of Visual Arts, the Coordinator of Science as well as a prominent Artist from the greater community.

We are proud to announce that the winning patch was designed by Lilly Barrett from Wiley H. Bates Middle School in Annapolis, Maryland. Her use of perspective and Anne Arundel County symbols made her patch the design which best represents AACPS’s Mission 13!.

Second Step

Our student's continue to experience social emotional lessons in their wellness block from Second Step. They also provide resources to support parents. We hope you enjoy this 3 minute wellness video on self compassion. It is so important to remember to take time for yourself at this time of year.

Winter Well-Being Week 1: Self-Compassion

JOIN BATES PLUNGE TEAM & HELP US GET TO TOP 10!!!!

The Bates Plunge team is currently ranked 11th but we want to be in the top 10! The Polar Bear Plunge has been a major fundraiser for the Special Olympics of Maryland for 25 years. This year, they are facing an uphill battle as the plunge will not be able to take place at Sandy Point State Park and will be completely virtual this year. We are inviting our Bates family to join our plunge team! It is free to join and you simply decide how you'd like to 'plunge!' If you raise at least $50, you get an amazing sweatshirt too. The best part is that it is an easy fundraiser that you can email to friends and family or post on your social media pages and it is for a great cause!

BONUS: If our Bates Blizzard Plungers raise $5,000 or more, Ms. Hicks will plunge into the frosty Magothy River and record it for all to see!!!!

If you are interested, follow these steps to join our team:

You can freeze for a great cause AND help us get Ms. Hicks in the river 🙂

INTERIMS

Teachers will input interim grades by December 18th. Please check parent portal and discuss grades with your student. This is a good time to set goals for the remainder of the marking period. Please encourage your student to use Office Hours and Academic Support Clubs as needed!

Academic Support During Club Time!

During the 2nd quarter, in addition to our clubs, we will be offering academic support during club time (11:10-11:50 M/T/Th/F). These will be by drop-in codes according to the days and organized by grade. Please see the attached sheet for grade level/content drop ins and directions on how to join. Students do not need to have the teacher leading the support in order to 'drop in!'
