Good curling!
ARE YOU REGISTERED?
If you are curling this winter, make sure you have registered online at owatonnacurling.org! All dues must be paid by December 1, 2023. Dues can be paid online via PayPal, or at the club via check, cash, or card (find a board member to help with this). Outstanding dues may lead to forfeiture of league games, so check in with your teammates to make sure they have paid.
LOOKING FOR ICE TIME OUTSIDE OF LEAGUE?
Please send an email to owatonnacurling@gmail.com to reserve ice time.
Use the CALENDAR to verify that your desired time is available. Ice time is scheduled on a first-come-first-served basis.
Thanks for helping us keep the calendar up-to-date!

NEW AT OCC!
NEW EQUIPMENT AT OCC
The board has purchased new grippers for our club. These will be used for our juniors program, as well as any learn-to-curl and/or group events hosted at the club. Additionally, if you are a curler that does not have curling shoes, you are welcome to use them as well.
Grippers (along with step-on sliders) make stepping the on the ice a little safer for new folks.
Grippers (and new-ish step-on sliders) are located in the cart near the locker room (under the TV). Please help us keep this equipment clean and organized!
Thanks for helping keep this equipment clean and organized!
Hooray for new grippers!
Step-on sliders!
ROCK HANDLES PRINTED!!
Covid interrupted our rock donation drive, but we're back on track, and the newly printed handles look great! Thanks to all that donated to sponsor a rock!!
There are still a few rocks available for sponsorship - if you'd like one, reach out to us at owatonnacurling@gmail.com.
Thanks to Ryan Claussen for helping make this happen!
JUNIORS CURLING IS BACK!!
We had our first youth curling Saturday this weekend, and had lots of new faces (along with lots of returners, too!). If you have youth in your life that would like to give curling a try, encourage them to join us!!
Elementary-aged curlers take the ice from 9-10am; middle and high schoolers curl from 10:30-11:30am (snacks are provided between sessions!).
Youth membership is $40 for the season (but they can try a Saturday for FREE!). Youth curling dates are set for November 11 and 18, December 9 and 16, January 6 and 20, and February 3, 10 and 17.
Thanks to Coaches Matt and Elijah (and Paul for being our main ice prep guy!). If you are interested in helping out with the youth program, let us know (owatonnacurling@gmail.com or talk to Kim Swanson)
WE NEED YOU!!!
There are lots of opportunities to help out at OCC. How can you support your club?
CLEAN UP!!! (note that a clean-up team is designated every league night!)
When it's your turn, please make sure to sweep the floor, take out garbage, and, if needed, vaccuum locker room area and/or clean the bathroom.
Additionally, if you use the kitchen, it is YOUR responsibility to clean up!!
SPREAD THE WORD!
Share curling with friends, family, and co-workers. We do still have room in Sunday-Wednesday leagues for one or more teams per night, and they could be added through the season.
Help spread the word on bonspiels, learn-to-curls, community ed events, etc, too! We'll make sure to get info to you via email and social media when these opportunities arise. If you are interested in hosting an event, let us know!!
HAVE THRIVENT OR OTHER COMMUNITY DOLLARS?
If you have Thrivent (or another program that allows you to direct $$$ to community organizations) and don't currently use your "Action Teams Project" dollars, consider applying to get $$ to help with new club brooms for juniors/learn-to-curl events, bonspiel food or raffle prizes, or other items to support OCC. I (Kim) just applied today --- if approved, we'll be able to purchase a couple of new club brooms :)
Thanks, Aaron, for suggesting this potential source of support!!
