Parent Teacher Conferences - Online Scheduling to Open 11/18
Parent/Teacher conferences are approaching on December 12, 2019 from 12:15 to 8:15 p.m. This time is an important opportunity to talk with your learner’s teacher to discuss the progress that your child has made thus far this school year and to share your perspective with us for the year. Conferences are a two-way conversation and your insights with regard to your child’s strengths and needs, learning style, and other non-school learning opportunities can help us to shape our instruction. Should you have an extenuating circumstance that prevents you from attending conferences on December 12, please connect with your learner’s teacher to discuss your child’s progress thus far at an alternate time. These conversations are such an important part of being an involved parent and we want to make sure that we are able to have them with each learner’s family.
We will be scheduling conferences online again this year through Family Access. Online scheduling will open Monday, 11/18/19 and stay open through Friday, 12/6/19. If you do not have a Family Access account, please contact the Family Access hotline at 248-956-2190 or email FamilyAccess@wlcsd.org. Be sure to include your name, the name of each child in the district, your email address and a daytime phone number. A video of how to schedule your conference time can be found HERE. If you need any assistance with this process and/or an interpreter for your conference time, please contact your child’s teacher. If you need support accessing the internet, please contact our main office (248.956.2000).
Nominations Being Accepted
The “Alec Bender Friend of Diversity Award” honors individuals who are true friends of multicultural diversity in our school district and community. The honor will be bestowed upon the recipient(s) at the district-wide Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration on January 20, 2020 at Walled Lake Northern High School. Any staff member, student, parent, or community member is eligible to receive this award and to make a nomination. Nomination forms for the “Alec Bender Friend of Diversity Award” are available in our school office. Please submit your nomination to our office by the deadline of Wednesday, November 20, 2019.
Dismissal Help!
With so much snow piled up along the driveway and parking lot it is difficult to get as close to your cars as we usually do to read your pick up numbers. Can you please keep an eye out for the staff member coming around to read numbers and make sure your number is very visible. Some people stick it right on the passenger window or on the passenger visor. Numbers on dashboards, especially in higher vehicles, are very difficult to read. If you are parked on Keith road please watch for us or stick your sign on the driver side or passenger window facing the school. Thanks for your help and assistance.
Keith Spirit!!!
Friday’s are Spirit Day here at Keith.
Your child is encouraged to wear a Keith shirt or the color red each and every Friday. The upper elementary and lower elementary classroom with the highest number of participants will win a visit from “Sparky” our Keith Dragon for the week.
This week's winners are:
Upper Elementary Room: Mrs. Dayton
Lower Elementary Room: Mrs. Mazer
Second Step Lessons
Parents, this week your children focused on the second step lesson below. Please take a moment to talk with your children about how they took time to show positive behavior at school.
Empathy
Getting along with others helps make Keith Elementary School a happier place. To get along with others, we need to have empathy for each other. Empathy is feeling or understanding what someone else is feeling. This week. Be a feelings detective! Try to notice how your classmates are feeling throughout the week. Watch their faces and bodies for clues.
Our focus for next week is listed below. We will review the following with your children when they return to school on Monday.
Identifying Feelings
We’re all learning to identify our own and others’ feelings. We can focus our attention on someone’s face or body and on the situation for clues about how the person is feeling. Sometimes people’s voices and the words they say also give us clues. If someone is yelling, it might be3 that this person is angry. If a person is using a very quiet voice, it might be that the person is scared or worried. This week, listen to people’s voices for clues to figure out how they might be feeling!
Thanks and Planks Challenge
Thank you for supporting our Mileage Club!
Due to the change in weather, future forecasts for our area, and to ensure all students remain safe with icy conditions, we have decided to close the mileage club this year. We will reopen in the early spring depending on weather. Thank you so much to all of our parent volunteers for ensuring a fun mileage club this Fall! We will see you in the spring!
Keith Student Council - Operation Snowpile
Our Student Council will be collecting money for Operation Snowpile at Children’s Hospital in Detroit. We will use the money collected in each classroom to buy gifts for kids that have to be in the hospital over the holidays. Please bring in your donations beginning ASAP. We will be collecting the classroom donation containers on November 25th. Thank you for your help!
