The Halloween Parade will be on Friday, October 27th starting at 2:15PM. Students may change into their costume at 2PM. No gory, scary, violent costumes, or weapons. Hats/helmets and masks that don't cover the whole face may be worn during the parade but nothing gory, scary or violent. Parents and younger siblings are welcome to watch the parade in the school gym and you may dress in costume.


Big Lake PTO is sponsoring the Fall Festival Friday night from 6-8PM in the school gym.

Costumes are encouraged at this family fun event where you can play games, win dessert at the cake walk, and go through the haunted house. Concessions will be open.

We are in need of baked goods for the cake walk. All donations earn your student tickets to the festival. Your tickets will be held at the door when you come to the festival and you can also purchase tickets at the door.

Volunteers are needed to help set up, run a game, or clean up after. There is a sign up sheet at the school office.

CONFERENCES: OCT 30th and 31st

No school for students on Monday, October 30th and Tuesday, October 31st due to Parent/Teacher Conferences. Students should have brought home a parent conference letter with the date and time of your scheduled conference with their teacher. Call 892-9700 if you have questions.


Trick or treat in a safe place at the Big Lake Lions Recreation Center for the Big Lake PTO Trunk or Treat. Dress in costume and trick or treat from trunks decorated by community members.

We are in need of bags of candy donations and volunteers to help set up and take down. Please contact Taleen at 351-6966 if you can help out!

We are also in need of 10 more trunks. There is no cost to register, but you must decorate a trunk and dressing up in costume is encouraged.

The Lions will have the rec center open for warm up and rest room use. Dress for the weather as this event is outside. October 31st 5:30-7:30PM.


We are accepting photos for the veteran slide show. Please email them as a jpg to or bring them to school during your parent/teacher conference. Photos are due by Nov. 1st. Thank you.


Items are added to the Lost & Found daily. If your child is missing a jacket, boots, or lunch box, please come look thru the Lost & Found during your conference time or at the Fall Festival. We would like these items returned to their owners.


Please watch for children when entering and exiting the parking lot. The speed limit is 5 MPH. The parking lot is one way, enter and drive in the lane closest to the building, drive around the end, and exit by the electronic sign.

Please drive slowly and watch out for our students.

Breakfast and lunch are free for students at Big Lake Elem. If a lunch is brought from home: white or chocolate milk costs 75 cents; soy milk is $1. If your student would like a second hot lunch the cost is $3.50. You can also put money on their account for these purchases if needed. If your child has a food allergy, please contact our school nurse.

all sizes youth t-shirts $15 and youth hoodies $25

adult small and medium t-shirts $15.

The pre-ordered adult Large and X-tra Large will arrive soon.


Upcoming Veteran's Day Celebration November 9th at 10am. Students please come dressed in any combination of red, white, and blue.

Congratulations to the choir for pulling off a fantastic combined concert at Houston Middle School!


Bookfair! October 23rd-November 3rd.


There have been a few cases of head lice at the school this year. Please check your children often and remind them to not share coats, hats, combs, or hair ties. If your child has lice please bring them to see the nurse for a re-check prior to returning to school.

On another note, no OTC (over the counter) medication - this entails any type of medication that is not prescribed by an MD - can be brought to school with students. All medication needs to be delivered by parents.

The nurse is screening students for height, weight, vision, and hearing for all students in Kdg, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades starting this month. If you have any questions please call Nurse Moore at 892-9705.


We have woken up to snow this week which is a good reminder that our students go outside for recess everyday for 30 minutes plus wait outside at the bus stop. Please make sure they bring their winter gear to school. If they wear boots, please have them bring shoes, or leave shoes at school, to change into so they aren't wearing their snow boots all day. There are many places in the valley that have gently used winter gear at either minimal cost or free. These places are:

  • Big Lake Clothing Closet-- All items are free
  • Turning Leaf - In Wasilla -- Wednesday is discount day for children's clothing and outdoor gear. (.50 for all clothing and $1.00 for coats etc.)
  • Value Village--In Wasilla-- Prices change depending on the discount of the day.
  • Salvation Army--In Wasilla-- Prices change depending on the sale rack of the day.

The school has very few items that students may borrow. Thank you

5th grade is having a coffee fundraiser to help raise money for the overnight trip to Homer.

This is a year-long fundraiser and coffee will be delivered every other week. There are many different sizes and flavors available starting at $5 for a 2 oz. bag all the way up to $25 for a 2 pound bag.

See Kristal Whitted in the office or any any 5th grade student to order.

BLE will be having our first Box Top contest in October! There will be prizes each week. They will be awarded by grade level. Save your Box Tops and students bring them to your teacher in October.
