We had a fun filled morning at the Hiwi the Kiwi show today!
With New Zealand being a country where you are never far from the sea, the NZSFC (New Zealand Sport Fishing Council) believes that it is best to educate our children from an early age on how to best enjoy, manage, protect and preserve our marine environment.
Everybody knows that eating fish is healthy. Going fishing is also recognised as one of the most popular, not to mention healthy, activities undertaken by Kiwis, with over 1 in 4 ‘having a go' at it each year. As Kiwis we all want to ‘do the right thing'.
Today's show was presented by Mark de Lacy (aka "The Minstrel") and taught many important things... like just how important it is to wear a life jacket and stay safe and also how vital it is to make sure the fish and shellfish we take from the sea are the right size: too small and they haven't had time to grow and breed, too big and they may have babies already.
We also get the chance to win a fishing rod by writing a story.
Winners of the writing competition will be announced in week 8...
Year 7/8 Camp - It looks like it stated with a bang!
THANK YOU!
Thank you to Maricris and Reynaldo Galiste of 'R n B Donut Sensations' for donating heaps of yummy donuts to the Kauri Camp this week. We're sure that they are going down a great treat!
A huge thank you also to Stuart and Janelle Urbahn from Countdown The Valley who donated sausages for our car boot sale and also donated a $250 voucher towards our Year 7 and 8 camp.

On Friday 7 December we have our school Celebration Night where all our students, staff, whanau, friends and community come together to celebrate the end of the year.
There will be food from 5pm and raffles – one of which is a Christmas Hamper.
We are asking every student to bring in at least one item to add to our Christmas Hamper – food, crackers, treats, decorations… anything that adds to the Christmas theme. Please bring items in to the school office.

Headlice... again
Cleanliness is not a factor in whether headlice are present or not, neither is age.
What to look for:
- Small light or dark brown insects without wings
- Tiny whitish eggs (nits) like grains of salt attached to hair shafts
- There may be unusual itching on the head or neck
- small red marks on the neck behind the ears (headlice bites)
Please check all heads regularly and treat if you see anything. Ask your GP for a free prescription.
It's time to bring them all back...
- library books issued or outstanding
- readers or journals
- sports uniforms and equipment
Please bring them all back to school as soon as you can, no questions asked.
... and Time to Settle the Bill
Unless you have already made arrangements, everything owing should be paid in full by the end of the school year.
Statements will be coming out again soon, but if you think you might still owe something, call in to the office or phone Karen or Paula to check.
