What's Happening at DeKeyser
Nursery / Preschool
What a better way to celebrate the month of October then with a visit from the Sterling Heights Fire Department for Fire Safety week. We also spent time creating leaf print T shirts for our upcoming Fall Concert🍁🍂🌿🚒👨🚒
Kindergarten
Our Kindergarten students have successfully completed their ABC bootcamp! They had so much fun being able to design their letter vests at home and bringing them in to show off. The entire school celebrated their success by lining the school hallways, clapping and cheering for them! The past few weeks have been a lot of hard work, but these Dolphins are ABC bootcamp masters!
1st Grade
Our first-grade team had an inspiring professional development session this Wednesday, delving into an engaging new science curriculum designed for young learners. On Friday, our students were overjoyed to reunite with their fifth-grade book buddies, coming together to craft unique tools that will soon play a vital role in our upcoming pumpkin investigations. It's been a week filled with fun and learning, and we can't wait to see what's in store for our young scholars!
2nd Grade
Second grade students have been learning about different text features: captions, headings, bold words, diagrams, photographs, and the glossary. Students had the opportunity to discover these in various magazines and share them on a community poster! During ISM, students made wearable reminders about a SUPER POWER they can use everyday ~ BEING RESPONSIBLE!
3rd Grade
3rd graders were so happy to support and cheer for Kindergarten friends on Friday during their ABC parade! You could see the excitement as third graders saw friends and siblings go by. Great job Kindergarten!
4th Grade
Fourth graders are working hard in the reading groups and stations. Students have been practicing their literacy skills on Readworks. They have explored the Freckle App in both reading and math. We are looking forward to some Halloween activities in math and reading.
5th Grade
Last week the students of fifth grade studied for a social studies, and most of them succeeded!
The test was about Native Americans and European Explorers. In order to prepare, they played a Blooket, and completed a study guide! If they made a mistake on the Blooket, that’s okay, because they can learn from that and get a good grade on the actual test. How? Because the test had the same questions as on the Blooket! Good job fifth grade, you did well!
Judy, Maya and Victoria
6th Grade
6th graders ventured out to Camp Copneconic this past Monday. Despite a chill in the air and a little rain, the kids had a great time! The climbing wall was the highlight. We were so impressed to witness the determination and grit of the kids and loved hearing them encourage and cheer each other on! Thank you to the chaperones who braved the elements and spent the day with us!
Music
We had a boomwhacking good time in music this week! Our upper grades performed some spooky tunes on our Boomwhackers.
3rd grade students continued to work hard to prepare for our Halloween concert next Tuesday.
Kindergarten and first grade classes listened as I read the book The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything . After we read the book, we learned the song "Will a Scarecrow Scare You" and used several different instrument to create sound effects to go along with each verse.
Media Center
This week in media center 1st graders worked in teams to build a gate that the “5 Little Pumpkins” sit on. With the kindergarteners we read The Leaf Man and then used the Freeform app to take a picture of a leaf that was posted in the library. After taking the picture they used markup to create something out of the leaf.
Art
Fourth grade students in Art are learning how to manipulate clay and imprint textures.
ISM
DeKeyser students spent their time this week learning about responsibility! We discussed the many ways we make responsible choices and how those choices can impact us and others. Our students also shared how responsibility is a leadership trait that can help us reach our goals. It’s great to see so many DeKeyser students making responsible choices each day…GO Dolphins!
Gym
Currently in our 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade Gym Classes we are doing our Basketball Unit! Students learned the proper form of basketball, rules, and learning to work together in teams! In our K-2nd grade classes the students had some fun and got the parachute out and played sharks and Minos working together in big groups and having fun!
