NYS Science Test

At this point, all the 4th graders have taken the "hands-on" portion of the assessment. Tomorrow, June 4th, the entire 4th grade will take the written portion of the test. They will have 30 multiple choice questions and several short answer type questions. Most kids finish within an hour, but they will have as much time as they need to complete the assessment.

Friday Folders will come home tomorrow, Monday, June 4th.

Mrs. Close's Class ~ All of the bridges are built! I hope your child has been filling you in on the work involved in planning, ordering supplies, building the pieces, and then finally put them together! We even had time to sneak in the two final lessons of Module 7 this week! Looking ahead, we're planning to "test" bridges on Tuesday, review Module 7 on Wednesday and assess on Friday.

Ms. Gleason's Class ~ We are in the last few lessons of module 6. The students will be adding and subtracting decimals and solving word problems involving decimals this week. A review and assessment will be next week. We'll end the year with some review of major topics and problem solving activities.

Mr. Hart's Class ~ We continue to work on module 6. We have been working with hundredths and decimal equivalency. The kids have also worked on comparing and ordering decimals. We will be moving forward into adding decimals and solving word problems that include addition of decimals. We should be finishing module 6 in the next couple of weeks. When we finish we will take some time to review concepts that we learned this year and focus primarily on those that the kids are still struggling with, such as multiplication and division.

Onanda Park

On Monday, June 18th, the entire 4th grade will be celebrating the end of the year with an all day trip to Onanda Park. The permission slip will be in Friday Folders that will be sent home on Monday. The trip costs $1.25 which covers the cost to rent the pavilion and the admission fee.

Parents who are planning to join us, please know that to park near the pavilion and buildings will cost you $4 in addition to the $1 admission. There is free parking across the road too. All parents should plan to pay at the gate.

More information will be coming regarding what the kids can bring.

Kids will need instruments on Tuesday for lessons and then Thursday for ensembles.

PAWS ~ The final assignment of the year will be assigned tomorrow and will be due on Friday, June 8th. The task will ask the kids to reflect on the year.

Word Work ~ We'll be back on schedule for the next two weeks!

Social Studies ~ We'll end the year learning about women's rights and slavery.

Picture Book Friday ~ We're still plugging away to ensure that all the kids get the opportunity to read!

Summer Birthdays

My records show that I have six students who will celebrate their birthdays in July or August. Please let me know if your child would like to celebrate in our classroom before the end of the year. The only date that won't work is June 18th.

Last Week of School

In case you haven't heard, Monday the 18th and Tuesday the 19th will be full days of school. Wednesday and Thursday will be half days.

The Erie Canal Trip

Friday's trip was a lot of fun! It started out with a demonstration of the lock. That was really interesting. Then we walked the trail to Market Street. We saw some turtle eggs and two blue herons. Before visiting the museums we were all able to get a break from the sun and eat lunch. We ended the trip visiting Phelps' General Store, the Print Shop, and two other museums.
