Good evening Grizzlies,

We are at the end of another action packed week.

I want to congratulate our Stunt team, who competed in the California State Championships last Sunday. They finished 2nd in the state! Congratulations on an amazing season.

On Tuesday we hosted the inaugural SRVUSD Civics Day. Student groups from CHS, Windemere Ranch Middle School, and Venture School, created projects focused on solving a problem in our community or across the world. We had some very creative and motivated young people present some innovative ideas.

This week was also "Senior Week." All week long members of the Class of '23 participated in lunch time activities that culminated in a senior rally today.

We continue to review and uphold safety procedures.

Thank you for following our current campus safety protocols by signing in at the front office before coming onto campus; and thank you for your partnership in keeping our students, staff and campus safe.

I have had some great conversations and suggestions from parents over the last couple weeks regarding safety. Since the gate procedures are new and our staff is investing a significant amount of time and people power to keep gates closed to the best of our ability, we welcome any volunteer support you are willing to give to help us. Make sure that you are cleared through our district Be a Mentor Volunteer System, and we will gladly have you help us supervise throughout the day. Please share your interest on the attached form.

I sent the below message to students on Monday morning (May 15) and we are continuing to adjust to find the best ways to continually ensure safety. I encourage you to have conversations with your children about supporting and following the gate procedures.

"Good morning Grizzlies,

I hope you all had a great weekend. After reviewing our current campus safety procedures, we’ve determined that to improve campus safety we need make sure that gates and exterior doors are secured. Beginning this week we will be closing the gates between buildings that allow entry to our campus at 8:45 am and the entrances at either end of the main building. Main Building access will only be from the center entrance. If you arrive on campus after 8:45 am, you must enter campus from the administration building. This is a big shift so as we transition to this new procedure we will have a campus monitor at the gate between the main building and the world language building at 8:45 am this week."

Next week is Thrive Week as student begin to prepare for finals. Please see all the spirit themes in the upcoming dates section below.

Have a great weekend.

Respectfully,

Mr. Ball

LGBTQ+ Pride Month (New)

June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month, which is celebrated across SRVUSD. This resolution was passed and adopted on August 16, 2022 by the Board of Education. It is one of the many resolutions adopted by the Board.

SRVUSD celebrates LGBTQ+ Pride Month because:

  • The District is committed to creating a safe and welcoming learning environment for every student and staff member. To accomplish this goal, we are engaged in efforts to create practices and initiatives to support students and staff who identify as LGBTQ+.

  • June is an opportunity to celebrate our LGBTQ+ community, raise awareness of services, and foster dialogue to further our equity goals, to ensure that all students feel safe, welcome and included at school.

  • Progress pride flags will be flown at the District Office and at all school sites for the entire month of June, to recognize the contributions made by members of the LGBTQ+ community and as a representation of our commitment to support our LGBTQ+ students and staff.

Here is a resource from the Contra Costa County Office of Education (CCCOE).

Steering Committee Applications Open

SRVUSD is excited to share with Parents and Caregivers that applications are open for parent/caregiver positions on three SRVUSD Steering Committees:

  • Social Emotional Well-Being Steering Committee

  • Equity Steering Committee

  • Deep Learning & Innovation Steering Committee

These advisory groups are comprised of Board of Education members, certificated and classified staff, administrators, students, and parents/caregivers. The purpose of the committees is to support the District in achieving the goals set forth in SRVUSD's Strategic Directions.

Steering Committee members will meet five times during the school year, working alongside one another to guide and advise SRVUSD on how to prioritize the goals set forth in the Strategic Directions, identify effective action steps to meet goals and evaluate evidence on the progress the District is making toward the goals. Members will also have opportunities to enact some of the activities suggested in the first round of steering committees.

Please complete the Google Form application linked below that corresponds to the committee you are interested in joining. The final selection of Steering Committee members will be based on criteria that consider a number of variables in an effort to achieve broad and inclusive representation. The goal is to have a cross-section of individuals sit on this committee and reflect the diversity of the SRVUSD community.
