Coming Up: Long Weekend Extended

Please plan for an extended long weekend at the end of next week. As many of you are aware, we started the school year with several unexpected maintenance issues, including a leaking water line outside the Pre3/4 drop off lot. In addition to the water leak, we have had several days of intense construction and installation planned that were delayed beyond the summer due to (now common) COVID-19 delays. This includes the HVAC upgrade and smartboard install.

We had already planned for a 2pm early dismissal on Thursday, Sept. 16th for our K-8th students so crews could start working earlier in the day. We are already out of school for teacher professional development on Friday, Sept. 17th. At this time, we are going to add Monday, Sept. 20th as another day out of school. We will NOT hold virtual classes. Much of what the crews will be doing will require intermittent cutoffs of water and electricity on the campus.

We are hopeful that by extending the planned long weekend by one more day, all of our crews will have sufficient time to complete their tasks without further school day interruptions. Because the Archdiocesan Catholic schools have extra days built into the school year, this extra day will not affect our last day of school. Classes will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 21st.

Picture Day(s)!

Tuesday, Sept. 21st is picture day for PreK-2nd grade. Although it is Spirit Day, PreK-2nd grade students should be in uniform or dressy attire like they would wear for a weekend mass. Please follow the free dress day rules, but take it up a notch style-wise. No athletic attire. Grades 3-8 may still wear a spirit shirt and jeans.

Wednesday, Sept. 22nd is picture day for 3rd-8th grade. Grades 3-8 students should be in uniform or dressy attire like they would wear for a weekend mass. Please follow the free dress day rules, but take it up a notch style-wise. No athletic attire. Kindergarten through 2nd grade students should be in normal school uniform.

Last Call: Register for Academic Bowl

Is your child a trivia buff, Jeopardy fan, or a walking encyclopedia? Register them to participate in the 2021-22 OAAC Academic Bowl season. Our 4th-6th grade teams will compete in the online tournament while our 7th & 8th grade teams compete in person at area schools. We are also looking for 1-2 coaches for each grade level team. Safe Environment required. More information on the school website. Cost is $25 per student and will be billed via FACTS. Registration due by Sept. 15. If you have questions or need help paying the registration fee, contact Kim Hattaway.

Extended Care Jobs

The number of students attending aftercare is considerably higher than last year. Mrs. Blevins is still looking to hire aftercare staff. If you know a college student or other adult looking for something part time, this is a great opportunity. Please contact Mrs. Blevins if interested: extendedcare@steugeneschool.org

Seeking Gala Chair(s)!

The date has been set for our 2022 St. Eugene Gala - we are beginning our selection process for a chairperson! If you have experience in organizing events and overseeing fundraising, we need your expertise! This is the biggest fundraiser of the year for our school, with past funds going toward technology upgrades, flexible furniture, facility improvements, and playground equipment. Please contact Mrs. Goldsworthy if you are interested in chairing this event.

COVID-19 Updates: Mask Up!

At this time, we are seeing local COVID-19 case numbers approaching their highest point ever since the pandemic began, and it is affecting children more than it did before. Our responsibility is to ensure our children, staff and families are safe, so it is with this in mind that we require everyone to wear face coverings in the building beginning Tuesday, Sept 7th. All staff, students, and visitors must wear a face covering in common spaces, classrooms, and close contact situations regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status. Students may still unmask outdoors and when eating. PreK students are highly encouraged to wear face coverings. Thank you for your cooperation.

PTO News!

Homeroom Parents! If you signed up to be a Homeroom or House parent--thank you! You will be hearing from our Homeroom and House Parent Coordinator, Kari Webber, soon. We still have some classes and houses that need Homeroom/House parents, so please click this link to sign up. These parents help organize parties, gala baskets, teacher birthdays, and whatever else our wonderful teachers need!

Upcoming Eat & Earns - Always mention St. Eugene when you order so we get a donation back to the school. Last month we earned $140 just by eating! Thank you, and don’t forget to spread the word to family and friends!

  • Sept. 15 at Hideaway Pizza on Memorial from 4pm-9:30pm.
  • Sept. 22 all day at Johnnie’s Britton AND May locations.

If you have questions about fundraisers, Eat & Earns, etc, visit the PTO site, and join the PTO Facebook group for more info.

Mitigate the Spread! 4 Ws - Wash your hands! Wear your mask! Watch your distance! Wait if you feel ill, learned of an exposure, or are awaiting test results. Waiting until you have more information and can assess your situation before coming to school or going somewhere is golden. It has been such a key in many cases. Please contact Mrs. Goldsworthy if you or a household member feels ill or has an exposure.
