What's the Weather?

Dwyer recently installed our own weather station so that we have accurate temperatures and readings for our coastal location in Huntington Beach (rather than other readings that are further inland). Thank you to Boeing and our PTSA for funding this project that all Science classes will be using.

Classes are just starting to look at weather in real time. Our station links in with other stations all over the US and gives us the capabilities to look at hurricanes in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and track the direction, category, and wind speed. The station also comes with WeatherSTEM labs, videos, and access to tons of information. Students can learn about data mining and meteorology. They will also be reviewing and interpreting graphs from our local weather. They can even look at and study various sensors regarding anemometer, barometer, dew point, hygrometer, light intensity, rain rate, temperature, uv radiation, wet bulb temperature, and wine vane.

You can visit our weather station readings online or install the Weather Bug app to your device (search Ethel Dwyer once in the app).

Red Ribbon Week Activities

Red Ribbon Week at Dwyer was full of activities to remind students to be drug free. We concentrated on the positives of what life is like without drugs and tons of students showed school spirit all week. On Monday, we all wore red to show we were "red"dy to be drug free. Tuesday we teamed up against drugs with sports jerseys. On Thursday, costumes were everywhere as we all said "boo" to drugs. We rounded out the week with crazy hair and Dwyer wear because Jr. Oilers are drug free from head-to-toe! Friday ended with all 7th and 8th grade classes attending a Red Ribbon Week assembly, sponsored by TUPE Tobacco Use Prevention Education). Check out some of the creativity below!
