Forest Hills Elementary

One week down!!

We had a great week learning about our classmates and practicing routines and procedures. We enjoyed sharing about ourselves and playing fun games together. We also spent time talking about what type of classroom community we wanted to be. Students have decided they want to be a group that is kind, respectful, fun and has a never-give-up attitude. I am looking forward to working with this amazing group of kiddos!

Remind app - PLEASE sign up!

I love using Remind to send you quick updates by text. To do this, take out your smart phone and type 81010 in the spot where you enter a phone number or contact name when texting, then text this information: @f2d4b3. That's it!

Field trip

Please turn in the tan permission slip for our upcoming field trip to the Bakken Museum. It is a wonderful experience that fits in perfectly with our electricity and magnetism science unit. You can also visit the museum as a family - here is a link to their website.

Wish list??? Something new.....

Parents asked at open house about a classroom wish list. We didn't really need anything like cleaning wipes or ziploc bags, so I decided to try something else. I have created a classroom wish list of books available for purchase on Amazon. It's a list of books that would be used in the classroom for read aloud, book clubs, or to add to our classroom library. If you are interested, here is a link to the list:

Thanks for considering!

Math

Next week, we will start our first chapter in math. We will study place value, compare and order numbers and will review adding and subtracting larger numbers. We will also work on our multiplication and division facts. You can help at home by encouraging your 4th grader to practice their facts. There are lots of fun apps they can use on their iPads - let me know if you need suggestions.

Literacy

We talked this week about how we can be engaged readers during independent reading time. We practiced reading intensely by making sure we chose books that were a good fit. At home, students are expected to spend time reading each evening (20-25 minutes).
