Dear Dealey Parents,

I am so humbled by the amount of support I've received since returning to Dealey in my new role. It's been a little over a month since I started and it's been a very productive and busy summer. The first task on my agenda was to fill seven positions. With the help of some Dealey teachers and staff, we were successful in hiring highly qualified candidates who will be an asset to our staff. I've attached introductions to some of these new staff members below. More introductions and bios will come out later this summer.

Thank you for your feedback on the recent parent survey. It was helpful to see your thoughts and I appreciate your willingness to share your wonderful insights. The survey responses will be shared with the teaching staff and we will be looking closely at your responses as we set goals for the upcoming school year. If you didn't have a chance to complete the survey, please use this link to submit your feedback before August 1st. Everyone is invited to fill it out!

After thoughtful discussions with our wonderful 4-6 teachers, I've made the decision to discontinue the pod model for the upcoming school year. I will be working with the staff to incorporate some of the social and academic advantages that we have experienced from the pod model into all of our upper elementary classrooms. One of the common threads in the feedback that I have received is the need for more social interaction between our sixth-grade students and a smoother transition into middle school academics. Here are some of the ways we are addressing this:

  • All 6th graders will attend Honors Science 6 with Mr. Cherryholmes in the Middle School hallway.
  • Our 4-6 teachers will be collaborating with the Middle School math teachers in PLCs this coming school year to help develop a stronger vertical alignment for the honors math track.
  • All 4-6 students will now be attending electives with their age-group peers from other classrooms.
  • All 6th graders will take a middle school theater elective.
  • All 4-6 students will have recess together.

I will be out of the office enjoying time with my family for the next two weeks. I return to work on July 18th. If you have a student moving to a new classroom next year, be watching your mailbox for your new teacher assignments!

I look forward to meeting all of you in person at our Meet the Teacher night the evening of August 11th.

Sincerely,

Cristina Ibarra (Principal)

A friendly reminder that our Summer Playdate Series continues on Saturday, July 23rd. We'll be at the PreK / K playground from 9am - 11am. It's a casual morning where the kiddos can run around and you can chat with other Dealey parents. If you can't make it, not to worry; the final Summer Playdate is August 13th; same time, same place.

Hope to see you this weekend!
