Keeping Up with Kipling!

September 10, 2021

Hello, Kipling Cougar Families!

I hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day and a Happy New Year (for those that celebrated that on Tuesday and Wednesday).

This short week felt not very short! We started MAP testing this week and we also moved Shield Testing to Friday (this week only). Between those two things and all of the normal things that happen in a week, we were pretty full.

Next week, we will continue to MAP test. Your child's teacher should have sent you their scheduled dates. Shield Testing is back on Tuesday. Also Tuesday, the PTO restaurant day is at Panera this week. Thursday is a non-attendance day. For those who celebrate, have an easy fast. Finally, don't forget that Friday is monochromatic day (pick a color, any color and stick to it:).

As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Have a great week!

Kipling Storytime

Now that we are a few weeks into the school year, I believe I am ready to start up our Kipling Storytime program. This year, my plan is to either read to the students or have a staff member read to the students every other Wednesday night. I truly enjoyed reading every Wednesday night last year, but family obligations will not allow for that again this year.

Please either sign go to Zoom or Facebook Live to watch the readings. I will start this Wednesday, September 15th beginning at 7:15pm. The next one will occur on Wednesday, September 29th at the same time. Perhaps it will be me, or perhaps it will be a Kipling Staff member. I will keep you posted.

Thanks in advance for watching!

Ruff Day!

We are asking all walkers - that is to say, those of you who are walking to school to pick up your child - to please keep your pets off of school property. While many of our children love to pet and play with the dogs, we also have a fair amount of children who are scared of the dogs, especially when they are barking at each other. Thank you for your cooperation.

Student Health Requirements 21-22

We recognize and are mindful of the fact that many families may have had difficulty getting children in for physical, dental, and eye exams as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has presented many challenges to routine medical care; however, at this time, all child-health related requirements for school attendance, remain in effect for children in public, private, or parochial schools, as per 105 ILCS 5/27-8.1.

Health-related examinations and immunization requirements are due no later than October 15. Please click here to be directed to our website for detailed information regarding specific requirements by grade level.

You will soon be receiving communication from our building nurse if your child is missing any of the required documentation. Students not in compliance with the health examination and immunization requirements will be excluded from school beginning Friday, October 15, 2021. Please reach out with any questions regarding these requirements as we want to partner with you to ensure compliance with these requirements. Thank you.

Arrival is 8:35 (2nd Running)

The earliest we allow students to arrive at school is 8:35am. We do not have any supervision prior to 8:35. Please plan your arrival around that time. We have had a few incidents of students on our playground equipment, in the gaga pit and around the school before we have any supervision outside. Please make sure that your route to school is timed so that you are not arriving early. Thank you for your cooperation.

Shield Testing (Final Running)

This past Tuesday marked the first Shield Test of the year. It went great. Students who attended Kipling last year filled their vial in record time and were ready to move on to the next part of their day. Our new students took a little longer, but they got the job done. We will Shield Test every week on Tuesdays except for the week of Labor Day and Rosh Hashanah. During that week, since we are not in school on Tuesday, September 7th, we are switching our date to Friday, September 10th.

Testing is not mandatory. By consenting to the testing, your child’s name is put on a roster and the expectation is that they will be testing weekly unless a parent/guardian notifies us otherwise.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO FILL OUT THE SHIELD CONSENT FORM…

Log in to Skyward/Family Access and it should appear as a green box next to your child’s name. Contact Kristen Neu (kneu@dps109.org) with any Family Access questions.

IF YOU WANT YOUR CHILD TO OPT OUT OF A WEEK OF TESTING…

Fill out this Google Form prior to 7 AM on the day that our school tests (usually Tuesdays except for Labor Day week).

*Please note that if you have consented but want to opt out of a week, you must fill out the form every week.
