Using Questions to Help Students Elaborate on Content
Discussion Strategies
Teachers can use discussions as a formative assessment task – asking questions and posing ideas to check the current level of understanding. In a well-planned and executed discussion activity, students build on each other's ideas and provide suggestions to each other.
Socratic Seminar

How to Design a Socratic Seminar
Fishbowl Discussion
Fishbowl is a strategy for organizing medium- to large-group discussions. Students are separated into an inner and outer circle. In the inner circle or fishbowl, students have a discussion; students in the outer circle listen to the discussion and take notes using a rubric.
