Classroom Library Books

As we reach the end of the year, teachers' classroom libraries look a little thinner than they did at the beginning of the year. Please have your child check their room or other areas in your home, to see if they may have any teacher's classroom books. Most are labeled with the teacher's name. Thanks so much!

Yearbooks are coming

Yearbooks will be distributed on Tuesday, May 31st. They will be sent home with the students who have purchased them.

If your student will not be on campus on and after 5/31/16, please email Amanda Parish, at: parisha@friscoisd.org to arrange for an alternate pick up time.

Still need to order a Yearbook?

A limited quantity of yearbooks are available for purchase. Please log onto your student’s My Payments Plus account— www.mypaymentsplus.com-- on Monday, May 16, 2016 at 8am. You will see an option to purchase underneath the Cafeteria Account Payments section. The cost is titled “Norris 15-16 School Yearbook”. This window will be open from Monday, May 16, 2016 at 8:00 am until Friday, May 20, 2016 at 12:00pm. Yearbook sales through My Payments Plus are First Come, First Serve. Due to the limited number of books available, we cannot guarantee any purchases. Please log in once the sales window opens. The purchase information will automatically be removed from the website once we have sold of the remaining yearbooks. No additional books will be available once the fee has been removed. All yearbooks through My Payments Plus will be distributed on 5/31/16.

With 3 weeks left of school, here is what we are focusing on!

Problem Solving - Exemplars - (Problems that require higher-level thinking and that students show the process in which they came to the answer)

Continuing to review 5th grade concepts that students still may struggle with. We are reinforcing our knowledge of the skills, as well as building on the concepts to be prepared for middle school math! We will be working on a foldable that students can have to refer to for next year.

Each week we will have a review of the clusters we have covered for grades. These assignments will coincide with the skills we are reviewing that week.

This week in writing we will start working on expository letters!

The focus of this week will be the students collaborating in groups to put together. Our goal is to have a presentation of every concept we have covered in 5th grade science.

This week in Reading we will continue to analyze text for the purpose of synthesizing. This week we will focus on Nonfiction text. In order to synthesize, we use our background knowledge and text to form conclusions and predictions. We then change our conclusions and predictions as we read and gather new information.

We love our new class book: The School of Fear! It is an awesome book, ask your child how they like it so far! There are several sequels to this book that your child might enjoy reading this summer!

Book Clubs: Book Clubs have been a huge success! I love hearing our students have authentic conversations about text. Remember, each student is responsible for taking care of their novel. These novels are brand new! If your child loses or damages a book club novel, there will be a $10 fee.

Homework: Homework will be to read the assigned book club chapter(s) for the week and respond. Responses will change from week to week. This week's response is to respond on Google Classroom. Due Friday!

Social Studies

This week in Social Studies we will collect, analyze, and interpret data using maps and charts.
