Math Whizzes
It tickles me that over half of our class has already passed their addition facts and are very close to passing subtraction. Students will earn their license plate once they've passed addition, subtraction and mixed (+/-). This will not happen without consistent at-home practice. Now that we've discontinued the twice weekly math homework, students must consider math facts practice and spelling list practice their homework.
I am getting many requests for copies of math facts sheets. It pleases me more than you'll ever know that you are offering such amazing support at home. However, due to the varied levels of the students, I'm simply not able to keep up with these requests. I have, however, found a website that offers at-home printing of the various mathematical operations. Click here to find the K-5 Learning Math and Reading Enrichment website that offers these printables.
School Carnival
We are excited to announce that the PTO will be having a carnival on Friday, November 2 from 5-8 at the Union County Middle School. You know what they say, "Many hands make light work." We need your help, and there are many ways you can assist. Perhaps the most important need is parent workers at the booths. If you choose to work a shift, there will still be time for you to enjoy the fun with your own children. Remember, the carnival is not possible without your help.
We will have $7 per person wristbands for unlimited play and individual tickets will also be available for purchase. Papa John's pizza, breadsticks, drinks, and desserts will be available for dinner as well! Look for more information in the folder, and let us know by October 19th in which way(s) you'll be able to make our carnival a smashing success!
Be Drug and Bully-Free
As we launch Red Ribbon Week, the theme is "Life is Your Journey. Travel Drug Free!" On Wednesday please remind your child to dress up as if (s)he were traveling to his/her favorite destination. They are all pretty confident about the attire I'll be wearing.
Wednesday, Oct. 17- "Life is Your Journey. Travel Drug Free!"
- Wear clothing that represents your favorite place of travel.
Wednesday, Oct. 31- Say "Boo" to Bullying and Drugs!
- Everyone wear (school appropriate) Halloween costumes
Halloween Special Snack
At the beginning of the year, several of you volunteered to send in treats for either Halloween, Christmas, or Valentine's Day. If you signed up for Halloween, I have sent a confirmation sheet in today's folder. If you do not receive one of these slips, then you may consider yourself "off the hook" for this one. You will be hearing from us about one of the others coming up during the year. As always, we thank you for your generosity.
Star Lab
Also this week, students were treated to a portable planetarium known as Star Lab. Mrs. Migoski hosted the budding astronomers for Monday's informational sessions. Check us out! We made the school corporation's website main page. Click here to see.
Speaking of science...we've had a ball with our multiple cloud experiments this week. Be sure to ask your child about them. Our cloud types book is nearing completion, too. Look for it soon.
Next Week's Share Topic: Free Choice
Next week your child may share about anything he or she likes as long as the presentation has been adequately prepared and stays within the time constraints. This is one students always look forward to!
