Joyfully Embracing Our Mission
St. Clare School Family Newsletter | 10 August 2018
Live Out Your Faith: Serve!
Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received,
with all humility and gentleness, with patience,
bearing with one another through love,
striving to preserve the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace:
one body and one Spirit,
as you were also called to the one hope of your call;
one Lord, one faith, one baptism;
one God and Father of all,
who is over all and through all and in all.
~ Ephesians 4:1-6
Dear St. Clare Family,
By now, you are familiar with this format, delivered to you via ParentSquare. My hope is that you will find it easier to use and access using your mobile device. Many components of the newsletter you're accustomed to are contained here, hopefully in "bite-size" pieces. You will always find the following each week:
- A scripture passages or inspiring quote
- A short note from me
- Upcoming events for the coming week or two
- A gospel reflection for the Sunday that follows
- Relevant and timely news
- Highlights of the gifts of our community
Sometimes, you will find flyers or forms for upcoming events or deadlines (e.g., scrip order form, lunch order form or links). Sometimes you will find relevant and/or interesting links to articles and videos on parenting, learning, and digital citizenship. Hopefully, all will give you a sense being a part of this journey that we are walking together to raise children of God who are compassionate, articulate and committed to serve.
We are beginning our year with an intention to use less paper, become responsible stewards of our environment and resources, all the while communicating and connecting with you in a timely and efficient manner. Starting this year, we are no longer sending home the Family Envelope. However, if at any point you would like a paper copy of the electronic information contained in these newsletters, please let the school office know.
Our teachers and office staff are busy getting the school ready for the arrival of your children. We are excited for the opportunity to grow together and to walk in community with you. If we remain focused on our shared purpose, our 2018-19 school year promises to be one for the books!
We are seeking your support by being present in our commitments and by responding to requests of time, talent and treasure throughout the year. (Please note the "asks" in this post.) This very important mission is ours. I am blessed with infinite grace and am incredibly grateful to have landed here with you.
Pray for me, our teachers and staff, Fr. Tad, Fr. Prosper and the parish staff as we begin our journey this school year.
Humbly,
Cecile Mantecón
Happy Feast Day St. Clare!

Update on Window Replacement
Our 98 year old elementary building is showing its age and unfortunately, it has impacted the installation of our windows. All entry way windows have been installed and painted. New windows have been installed in the boys' and girls' restrooms, the Learning Center, the TK, 4th and 5th grade classrooms. However, because the hardware that control the windows are also 98 years old, it has been a challenge to get them to close and seal properly. This has caused a delay in the installation. Most of the work will be done before school opens but there is a great possibility that some work will need to be done through September. Please rest assured that we will manage the schedule so that work is done when classes are not in session. Thank you for your patience!
We are Grateful: Enhancing our Space, Building Community
Mr. Michael Aken and crew showed up in force on Saturday, August 4th for the very first Saturday work day of the school year! Their efforts truly embodied Paul's message to the Ephesians. In the four hours they spent on campus, they were able to help us organize the space and the materials we needed to begin working in our classrooms. We are grateful to Michael Aken, Matt Brann, Kidane/Kefyalew Family, Wilkinson Family, Marisa Silva, Matt Nguyen, Jorge Chavez, Aracely Rojas, Espinosa Family, Caroline Zelaya, Escalada Family.
Many more "hands" will be joining Mr. Aken and crew this Saturday, August 11 to spruce up the space. Won't you join us? Please see Miss Cherell's post and RSVP for this very important work. We are grateful to all!
