Sixth grade parent letter is also available to download below.
It may be hard to believe, but we are nearing the end of our first card marking period. Since the start of school, we have worked together to celebrate real academic successes and the positive impact of the connections being made between teachers and students. It is now our opportunity to schedule Parent-Teacher Conferences. Conferences are an important part of our partnership to make sure students are meeting our shared expectations. This year, we will be offering BOTH virtual (online) and in-person conference sessions for our K-5th grade parents. Sixth grade parents will find all three sixth grade teachers available for in-person conferences on the above dates in the gym. Conference notes were sent home with 6th grade students last week; to help with planning, please return the completed paper form to school.
This year, we will again be using a web-based process to schedule a meeting with your child’s teachers about their progress. The system we are using is called School Soft Conference Manager and it will allow you to check our teachers’ conference schedules and book an appointment for an on-line/virtual or in-person conference. If you choose to have a virtual conference, you will use the same system to 'attend' the online conference in November.
The first time you use the Conference Manager you will be required to register and create a parent account. (If you already have an account from previous years, you can skip this step).Setup only takes a minute or two. You will continue to use this same account for the duration of the time you have children in the school, so please record your password where you can reference it later.
A separate newsletter for Parent Teacher Conferences has been attached below. Use the link in the newsletter to sign up for your conference. Other information in the newsletter can be used if you need to know how to set up an account, the schedule of dates and times, or a video tutorial on how to attend a virtual conference.
Registration begins at 8:00 AM on Saturday, October 29, 2022.
REPORT CARDS COMING IN NOVEMBER THROUGH POWERSCHOOL ACCOUNTS
During November, Ebeling will distribute reports cards electronically. The first marking period grades will be sent electronically to families at the end of the day on Thursday, November 17, 2022.
To receive the report cards, parents will need to have a secure PowerSchool account. Parents who do not have access to a PowerSchool account will need to register for one prior to Tuesday, November 1. The report cards will then be automatically e-mailed to the address that is used to register the PowerSchool account. If you already have a PowerSchool account, you do not need to take any further action. The report card automatically will be sent to you electronically.
THE BOOK FAIR IS COMING!
We are excited to welcome back our Scholastic Book Fair which will be held November 14 - 18. Students will shop during their regularly scheduled Media Center times throughout the week. Make up times will be provided throughout the week as well for any student who may have missed their shopping time. This event is only made possible with the help of our amazing volunteers. There are a variety of times and tasks available and are listed on the Sign Up Genius link below. Training on running the cash registers will also be provided, so do not hesitate to take on that task.
NOTE: ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST HAVE A CURRENT BACKGROUND CHECK ON FILE TO PARTICIPATE. THESE FORMS ARE AVAILABLE IN THE FRONT OFFICE.

LOST AND FOUND
Encourage your child to check Lost and Found for their missing items. Our lost and found table is overflowing with clothes, shoes, jackets, gloves, lunchboxes and more! Parent teacher conference days provide a great opportunity for parents to reclaim lost items. All items will be donated to a local charity organization the week before Thanksgiving, so please take a look:)
CHARITABLE DONATION COLLECTIONS
Our schoolwide Kiwanis Canned Food and Hat and Mitten Tree Collection Begin on November 15th. Classrooms will each receive a box for canned food collection (THANK YOU to Mrs. Barker's class for assembling the boxes!) See the flyer below for information on our "Food Fight" - a friendly competition for donations between classes!
Note that the canned food collection only runs two weeks (one of them being Thanksgiving week, so it's short!) but the hat and mitten collection will run through Monday, December 12th.

REMINDERS AND REPEATS FROM PREVIOUS ISSUES OF THE EAGLE NEWS BELOW:
ATTENDANCE POLICY
If your child is going to be absent call 586-797-4799 and leave a message on the 24-hour automated absence line. Any absences not called in to the office will be marked as 'unexcused' on student attendance records.
Your child will be excused from class for illness, bereavement, recognized religious holidays and medical or dental treatment that cannot be scheduled after school or on weekends.
Your child is responsible for makeup work. Homework requests may be made for an absence of two or more days in the case of both excused and pre-excused absences. Homework requests require 24 hours to process.
VACATION POLICY
Absence for family travel during scheduled school days is discouraged.
However, should family travel be necessary, parents must submit a written request to the Ebeling office for Principal approval of a pre-excused absence at least one week in advance. Vacation days in excess of 10 days per school year will not be approved.
Arrangements to complete classroom assignments can be made with the teacher.
You can arrange for home study through the school principal should your child be absent from school for an extended period due to physical disability or illness.
LATE ARRIVAL
If a student arrives late to school, the parent must accompany the student into the office, and the student must be signed in before he or she can go to class.
Truancy officials will be contacted in the event of a student having excessive tardies or absences.
SCHOOL PROPERTY REMINDERS:
NO PETS
Utica Community Schools has a no pet policy on school property.
OUTDOOR LEARNING
Please remain off school play areas and blacktop until 3:05 PM. Outdoor activities are scheduled daily until 3:00 PM.
NO SMOKING
The use of tobacco products on school property is prohibited in Michigan.
SCHOOL VISITORS:
We are asking for your assistance to ensure that our security procedures during the school day are effective. As many of you know, our school has a security camera, intercom, and buzzer at the front main entrance for use during the school day. To help us assist you when you would like to enter the school:
1. Please press the buzzer to speak with someone in the office
2. You will be asked to state your name and reason for visiting
3. You will be asked to show your photo ID into the security camera above the outside door
4. Office staff will then be able to buzz you inside
5. All visitors must immediately register in the office
In addition, we are asking you to not let any visitors in the door as you enter (and they come up behind you) or as you exit the building.
The teachers and staff are committed to student safety and security and we would like to thank you for your assistance in helping keep the students of Ebeling safe.
