Notes from school...
Thank you!
The BES Staff would like to thank all of the families who donated time, money, and/or food and beverage for the chili bar this past Monday. Everything was delicious! Things like this make us feel special and appreciated, so THANK YOU!
An "ask" for our car riders
We met with our bus drivers today and they are very concerned about how many of the car riders and parents are walking in multiple directions and in front of the buses when they are moving.
To create a safer experience for everyone at arrival, we are asking that if there are buses in our lot, all car riders assemble in the parking lot closest to Bayside road and have the car rider children walk to the school along with the bus riders. The wouldn't be a need for parents to walk their children all the way to the school. Kids can walk with other kids.
Let's Finish Strong with our End Hunger Challenge!
Thanks to everyone who has sent in items for End Hunger. We have a few more days left to fill our boxes which stock the shelves in local pantries for those who need food!
BES Annual Goblin Parade- 10/31 (repeat)
.
It's almost time!!! BES Bookfair-Coming Soon!
The fair will start on Thursday, November 2nd (an A day) and will end on Friday, November 10th (Parent Conference Day). Students will visit the book fair during their regular library rotation time. The book fair is our only school fundraiser which directly benefits our library and library program. 50% of all money spent will come back to our library to help us purchase new books and supplies for our students.
We'll need lots of volunteers to make our fair a success! Please sign up for any available slot at this Volunteer Sign Up Link. Don't forget, all school volunteers must be approved through our CCPS system.
This year, like last spring, we will only be accepting E-Wallet payment from students during the in-school fair. On our family day, adults may also shop with credit card and check. The E-Wallet system was a huge success and time saver last year. It also alleviates many of the issues that arise when cash gets left at home or goes missing during the school day. You can set up your student's E-Wallet on our Scholastic fair homepage, and you can also read more about how the E-Wallet works. The homepage is also where you'll find the online component of our book fair, which will offer more titles than we can fit at school, and which will be open for two weeks after the start of our in-person fair. You can also check out the digital flyer for a preview of some of the titles that will be included in our fair.
If you'd like to contribute to our school fund to help purchase books for students in need, you can do so by adding to our BES Student Fund at this E-Wallet link. Classroom teachers may also choose to set up their own E-Wallets to benefit their classroom libraries. If they choose to do so, they will share their E-Wallet links with you directly.
We want to make sure that every student has the opportunity to pick out a book. If your family is in need of some help for this fair, please reach out to me at grenierc@calvertnet.k12.md.us as soon as possible and I will make sure that your student(s) are able to participate.
Our library schedule for the week of the book fair is as follows:
Thursday, 11/2 A Day
Hyde, Hall, Nealon, Conto, Butz, Moore
Monday, 11/6 C Day
Kawonczyk, Hendricks, Wealer, Gagnon, Pilkerton, Seibert

Lexia Core5 "At-Home Literacy Activities" that Promote Literacy Development
Calvert County Public Schools uses Lexia Core5 platform in our literacy curriculum to provide differentiated literacy instruction for all students. The goal of Lexia is to support grade-level standards and help students make connections between online practice and classroom instruction. When students complete Lexia grade-level requirements, our goal is that students will then apply their learned skills.
So how can families support their child at home to apply the literacy skills they have learned in school? One way is to use Lexia Core5 “At-Home Resources” that are available to families.
To view the At-Home family activities, please click on the link below:
At-home Core5 Resources (lexialearning.com)
***Please note: The online lessons of Lexia Core5 are only being used while your child is at school. Therefore, the Lexia Read @ Home Activities are a way for families to continue the curriculum at home.
In addition to the Lexia Read @ Home Activities, there is also an “At-Home Activity Sheet” that lists activities that you can do with your child based on their Lexia Level! By working with your child on activities that target their Lexia level, you are helping your child apply essential literacy skills and building a strong home-school connection! If you do not know your child’s current Lexia level, please contact your child’s teacher. 😄
