WHPE March/ April Update
SHAPE America National Physical Education Convention!
HI everyone!
Well it is hard to believe that it has been more than a week that many of us were at the SHAPE America National convention in Seattle. We had the chance to see great teachers sharing their craft, hear great speakers such as John Medina and Dr, Kenneth Cooper, and most importantly share and learn with peers. Next year the SHAPE America Convention comes to Minneapolis, Minnesota. It's in our back yard and I hope many more of us can attend!
One thing of note that people may want to check out is the "Online Physical Education Network" http://openphysed.org/. This is a new free resource and lessons for teachers. It is sponsored by US Games and I had a chance to meet with the developer, Aaron Hart. Many of you may remember Aaron from Station PE and most recently SPARK. Aaron's new project looks exciting AND Aaron has assured me that it is free and will always be free to everyone! We can always use good resources and the price is right!
Lastly, the SHAPE America President Dolly Lambdin, the outgoing SHAPE America President called us to action to be a "cause" organization. With that SHAPE America has announced our cause, 50 Million Strong by 2029! http://www.shapeamerica.org/prodev/50million.cfm
Right from the SHAPE America website, "SHAPE America wants to ensure that by the time today's preschoolers graduate from high school in 2029, all of America's students are benefitting from the skills, knowledge, confidence, desire and opportunities to enjoy healthy, meaningful physical activity."
This is a mission that we all can get behind! Have a great Easter and Spring Break!
