NEWS and NOTES
Some of you might have heard about the Appleton's (5th & 6th grade) and the loss of their house. It sounds like everyone is okay and will recover, but the family lost all they had. We will be collecting donations for the family to present to them. Please see Ms. Pena for more details and if you would like to donate anything.
I have attached the IDOE Monitoring Feedback Document from Wednesday's visit. As I mentioned in an earlier email, I am proud of the hard work we have done to make such positive changes. We have been able to put systems and positive practices into place that are putting us on the path to higher achievement and more positive outcomes for our students. GREAT JOB!!!!! Now it is the time to refine and deepen our instructional practices.
This deepening of instructional practices will require us to take a close look at our planning and execution of lessons. How are we deconstructing the standards to determine the skills that need to be taught? How do these skills become specific, singular I CAN statements that cycle throughout the lesson? How is the skill explicitly modeled, practiced as a group, and released to students to practice? More to come to support this work during collaborative planning! There is an example of how this can look below in the PD DIY section...
Talking data....how do your students know how they are progressing in their reading capacity? Grades K-2....do your students know how many sight words they know? How are they growing in TRC? Grades 3-6...do your students know their SRI level? I am going to begin engaging our students in focus groups to answer these questions. Are they going to be ready??
There will be an Opportunity Culture information session this coming Thursday from 5:00-7:00 pm at Forest Manor. This will be a chance to learn more about how this will look in schools implementing the framework.
